1The first words of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
1The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
1Beginning of the glad tidings of Jesus Christ, Son ofGod;
2Even as it is said in the book of Isaiah the prophet, See, I send my servant before your face, who will make ready your way;
2Even as it is written in Isaiah the prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way;
2as it is written in [Isaiah] the prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way.
3The voice of one crying in the waste land, Make ready the way of the Lord, make his roads straight;
3The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make ye ready the way of the Lord, Make his paths straight;
3Voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of [the] Lord, make his paths straight.
4John came, and gave baptism in the waste land, preaching baptism as a sign of forgiveness of sin for those whose hearts were changed.
4John came, who baptized in the wilderness and preached the baptism of repentance unto remission of sins.
4There came John baptising in the wilderness, and preaching [the] baptism of repentance for remission of sins.
5And there went out to him all the people of Judaea, and all those of Jerusalem, and they were given baptism by him in the river Jordan, saying that they were sinners.
5And there went out unto him all the country of Judæa, and all they of Jerusalem; and they were baptized of him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
5And there went out to him all the district of Judaea, and all they of Jerusalem, and were baptised by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.
6And John was clothed in camel's hair, with a leather band about him; and his food was locusts and honey.
6And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and had a leathern girdle about his loins, and did eat locusts and wild honey.
6And John was clothed in camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins, and ate locusts and wild honey.
7And he said to them all, There is one coming after me who is greater than I, whose shoes I am not good enough to undo.
7And he preached, saying, There cometh after me he that is mightier than I, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
7And he preached, saying, There comes he that is mightier than I after me, the thong of whose sandals I am not fit to stoop down and unloose.
8I have given you baptism with water, but he will give you baptism with the Holy Spirit.
8I baptized you in water; but he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit.
8I indeed have baptised you with water, but he shall baptise you with [the] Holy Spirit.
9And it came about in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was given baptism by John in the Jordan.
9And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in the Jordan.
9And it came to pass in those days [that] Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptised by John at the Jordan.
10And straight away, coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens broken open and the Spirit coming down on him as a dove:
10And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens rent asunder, and the Spirit as a dove descending upon him:
10And straightway going up from the water, he saw the heavens parting asunder, and the Spirit, as a dove, descending upon him.
11And a voice came out of heaven, You are my dearly loved Son, with whom I am well pleased.
11and a voice came out of the heavens, Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I am well pleased.
11And there came a voice out of the heavens: Thou art my beloved Son, in thee I have found my delight.
12And straight away the Spirit sent him out into the waste land.
12And straightway the Spirit driveth him forth into the wilderness.
12And immediately the Spirit drives him out into the wilderness.
13And he was in the waste land for forty days, being tested by Satan; and he was with the beasts; and the angels took care of him.
13And he was in the wilderness forty days tempted of Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
13And he was in the wilderness forty days tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to him.
14Now after John had been put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the good news of God,
14Now after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God,
14But after John was delivered up, Jesus came into Galilee preaching the glad tidings of the kingdom ofGod,
15And saying, The time has come, and the kingdom of God is near: let your hearts be turned from sin and have faith in the good news.
15and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe in the gospel.
15and saying, The time is fulfilled and the kingdom ofGod has drawn nigh; repent and believe in the glad tidings.
16And going by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon, and Andrew, the brother of Simon, putting a net into the sea: for they were fishermen.
16And passing along by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea; for they were fishers.
16And walking by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon, and Andrew, [Simon's] brother, casting out a net in the sea, for they were fishers.
17And Jesus said to them, Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.
17And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
17And Jesus said to them, Come after me, and I will make you become fishers of men;
18And they went straight from their nets, and came after him.
18And straightway they left the nets, and followed him.
18and straightway leaving their trawl-nets they followed him.
19And going on a little farther, he saw James, the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were in their boat stitching up their nets.
19And going on a little further, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending the nets.
19And going on thence a little, he saw James the [son] of Zebedee, and John his brother, and these [were] in the ship repairing the trawl-nets;
20And he said, Come after me: and they went away from their father Zebedee, who was in the boat with the servants, and came after him.
20And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after him.
20and straightway he called them; and leaving their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, they went away after him.
21And they came to Capernaum; and on the Sabbath he went into the Synagogue and gave teaching.
21And they go into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue and taught.
21And they go into Capernaum. And straightway on the sabbath he entered into the synagogue and taught.
22And they were full of wonder at his teaching, because he gave it as one having authority, and not like the scribes.
22And they were astonished at his teaching: for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.
22And they were astonished at his doctrine, for he taught them as having authority, and not as the scribes.
23And there was in their Synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he gave a cry,
23And straightway there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
23And there was in their synagogue a man [possessed] by an unclean spirit, and he cried out
24Saying, What have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? have you come to put an end to us? I see well who you are, the Holy One of God.
24saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus thou Nazarene? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
24saying, Eh! what have we to do with thee, Jesus, Nazarene? Art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the holy one ofGod.
25And Jesus said to him sharply, Be quiet, and come out of him.
25And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
25And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace and come out of him.
26And the unclean spirit, shaking him violently, and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.
26And the unclean spirit, tearing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.
26And the unclean spirit, having torn him, and uttered a cry with a loud voice, came out of him.
27And they were all greatly surprised, so that they put questions to one another, saying, What is this? a new teaching! with authority he gives orders even to the unclean spirits, and they do what he says.
27And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What is this? a new teaching! with authority he commandeth even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.
27And all were amazed, so that they questioned together among themselves, saying, What is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.
28And news of him went out quickly everywhere into all parts of Galilee round about.
28And the report of him went out straightway everywhere into all the region of Galilee round about.
28And his fame went out straightway into the whole region of Galilee around.
29And when they came out of the Synagogue, they went into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
29And straightway, when they were come out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
29And straightway going out of the synagogue, they came with James and John into the house of Simon and Andrew.
30Now Simon's wife's mother was ill, with a burning heat; and they gave him word of her:
30Now Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever; and straightway they tell him of her:
30And the mother-in-law of Simon lay in a fever. And straightway they speak to him about her.
31And he came and took her by the hand, lifting her up; and she became well, and took care of their needs.
31and he came and took her by the hand, and raised her up; and the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
31And he went up to [her] and raised her up, having taken her by the hand, and straightway the fever left her, and she served them.
32And in the evening, at sundown, they took to him all who were diseased, and those who had evil spirits.
32And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were sick, and them that were possessed with demons.
32But evening being come, when the sun had gone down, they brought to him all that were suffering, and those possessed by demons;
33And all the town had come together at the door.
33And all the city was gathered together at the door.
33and the whole city was gathered together at the door.
34And a number, who were ill with different diseases, he made well, and sent out evil spirits; but he did not let the evil spirits say anything, because they had knowledge of him.
34And he healed many that were sick with divers diseases, and cast out many demons; and he suffered not the demons to speak, because they knew him.
34And he healed many suffering from various diseases; and he cast out many demons, and did not suffer the demons to speak because they knew him.
35And in the morning, a long time before daylight, he got up and went out to a quiet place, and there he gave himself up to prayer.
35And in the morning, a great while before day, he rose up and went out, and departed into a desert place, and there prayed.
35And rising in the morning long before day, he went out and went away into a desert place, and there prayed.
36And Simon and those who were with him came after him.
36And Simon and they that were with him followed after him;
36And Simon and those with him went after him:
37And when they came up with him, they said to him, Everyone is looking for you.
37and they found him, and say unto him, All are seeking thee.
37and having found him, they say to him, All seek thee.
38And he said to them, Let us go to other parts into the nearest towns, so that I may give teaching there, because for this purpose I came.
38And he saith unto them, Let us go elsewhere into the next towns, that I may preach there also; for to this end came I forth.
38And he says to them, Let us go elsewhere into the neighbouring country towns, that I may preach there also, for for this purpose am I come forth.
39And he went into their Synagogues in every part of Galilee, preaching and driving out evil spirits.
39And he went into their synagogues throughout all Galilee, preaching and casting out demons.
39And he was preaching in their synagogues in the whole of Galilee, and casting out demons.
40And a leper came to him and, going down on his knees before him, made a request, saying, If it is your pleasure, you have the power to make me clean.
40And there cometh to him a leper, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
40And there comes to him a leper, beseeching him, and falling on his knees to him, and saying to him, If thou wilt thou canst cleanse me.
41And being moved with pity, he put out his hand, and touching him said to him, It is my pleasure; be made clean.
41And being moved with compassion, he stretched forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou made clean.
41But Jesus, moved with compassion, having stretched out his hand, touched him, and says to him, I will, be thou cleansed.
42And straight away the disease went from him, and he was made clean.
42And straightway the leprosy departed from him, and he was made clean.
42And as he spoke straightway the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.
43And he sent him away, saying to him very sharply,
43And he strictly charged him, and straightway sent him out,
43And having sharply charged him, he straightway sent him away,
44See that you say nothing to any man: but go and let the priest see you, and make yourself clean by an offering of the things ordered by Moses, for a witness to them.
44and saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go show thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing the things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
44and says to him, See thou say nothing to any one, but go, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing what Moses ordained, for a testimony to them.
45But he went out, and made it public, giving an account of it everywhere, so that Jesus was no longer able to go openly into a town, but was outside in the waste land; and they came to him from every part.
45But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to spread abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into a city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
45But he, having gone forth, began to proclaim [it] much, and to spread the matter abroad, so that he could no longer enter openly into the city, but was without in desert places, and they came to him from every side.
