1For the law, having a shadow of the coming good things, not the image itself of the things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually yearly, perfect those who approach.
1For the law having a shadow of the coming good things--not the very image of the matters, every year, by the same sacrifices that they offer continually, is never able to make perfect those coming near,
1For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, not the very image of the things, by the selfsame sacrifices which they offer continually every year, can never make the comers thereunto perfect.
2Since, would they not indeed have ceased being offered, on account of the worshippers once purged having no longer any conscience of sins?
2since, would they not have ceased to be offered, because of those serving having no more conscience of sins, having once been purified?
2For then they would have ceased to be offered: because the worshippers once cleansed should have no conscience of sin any longer.
3But in these [there is] a calling to mind of sins yearly.
3but in those <FI>sacrifices<Fi> is a remembrance of sins every year,
3But in them there is made a commemoration of sins every year:
4For blood of bulls and goats [is] incapable of taking away sins.
4for it is impossible for blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
4For it is impossible that with the blood of oxen and goats sin should be taken away.
5Wherefore coming into the world he says, Sacrifice and offering thou willedst not; but thou hast prepared me a body.
5Wherefore, coming into the world, he saith, `Sacrifice and offering Thou didst not will, and a body Thou didst prepare for me,
5Wherefore, when he cometh into the world he saith: Sacrifice and oblation thou wouldest not: but a body thou hast fitted to me.
6Thou tookest no pleasure in burnt-offerings and sacrifices for sin.
6in burnt-offerings, and concerning sin-offerings, Thou didst not delight,
6Holocausts for sin did not please thee.
7Then I said, Lo, I come (in [the] roll of the book it is written of me) to do, OGod, thy will.
7then I said, Lo, I come, (in a volume of the book it hath been written concerning me,) to do, O God, Thy will;'
7Then said I: Behold I come: in the head of the book it is written of me: that I should do thy will, O God.
8Above, saying Sacrifices and offerings and burnt-offerings and sacrifices for sin thou willedst not, neither tookest pleasure in (which are offered according to the law);
8saying above--`Sacrifice, and offering, and burnt-offerings, and concerning sin-offering Thou didst not will, nor delight in,' --which according to the law are offered--
8In saying before, Sacrifices, and oblations, and holocausts for sin thou wouldest not, neither are they pleasing to thee, which are offered according to the law.
9then he said, Lo, I come to do thy will. He takes away the first that he may establish the second;
9then he said, `Lo, I come to do, O God, Thy will;' he doth take away the first that the second he may establish;
9Then said I: Behold, I come to do thy will, O God: He taketh away the first, that he may establish that which followeth.
10by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
10in the which will we are having been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once,
10In the which will, we are sanctified by the oblation of the body of Jesus Christ once.
11And every priest stands daily ministering, and offering often the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
11and every priest, indeed, hath stood daily serving, and the same sacrifices many times offering, that are never able to take away sins.
11And every priest indeed standeth daily ministering and often offering the same sacrifices which can never take away sins.
12But he, having offered one sacrifice for sins, sat down in perpetuity at [the] right hand ofGod,
12And He, for sin one sacrifice having offered--to the end, did sit down on the right hand of God, --
12But this man, offering one sacrifice for sins, for ever sitteth on the right hand of God,
13waiting from henceforth until his enemies be set [for the] footstool of his feet.
13as to the rest, expecting till He may place his enemies <FI>as<Fi> his footstool,
13From henceforth expecting until his enemies be made his footstool.
14For by one offering he has perfected in perpetuity the sanctified.
14for by one offering he hath perfected to the end those sanctified;
14For by one oblation he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
15And the Holy Spirit also bears us witness [of it]; for after what was said:
15and testify to us also doth the Holy Spirit, for after that He hath said before,
15And the Holy Ghost also doth testify this to us. For after that he said:
16This [is] the covenant which I will establish towards them after those days, saith [the] Lord: Giving my laws into their hearts, I will write them also in their understandings;
16`This <FI>is<Fi> the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, giving My laws on their hearts, and upon their minds I will write them,'
16And this is the testament which I will make unto them after those days, saith the Lord. I will give my laws in their hearts and on their minds will I write them:
17and their sins and their lawlessnesses I will never remember any more.
17and `their sins and their lawlessness I will remember no more;'
17And their sins and iniquities I will remember no more.
18But where there [is] remission of these, [there is] no longer a sacrifice for sin.
18and where forgiveness of these <FI>is<Fi> , there is no more offering for sin.
18Now, where there is a remission of these, there is no more an oblation for sin.
19Having therefore, brethren, boldness for entering into the [holy of] holies by the blood of Jesus,
19Having, therefore, brethren, boldness for the entrance into the holy places, in the blood of Jesus,
19Having therefore, brethren, a confidence in the entering into the holies by the blood of Christ:
20the new and living way which he has dedicated for us through the veil, that is, his flesh,
20which way he did initiate for us--new and living, through the vail, that is, his flesh--
20A new and living way which he hath dedicated for us through the veil, that is to say, his flesh:
21and [having] a great priest over the house ofGod,
21and a high priest over the house of God,
21And a high priest over the house of God:
22let us approach with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, sprinkled as to our hearts from a wicked conscience, and washed as to our body with pure water.
22may we draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, having the hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having the body bathed with pure water;
22Let us draw near with a true heart, in fulness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with clean water.
23Let us hold fast the confession of the hope unwavering, (for he [is] faithful who has promised;)
23may we hold fast the unwavering profession of the hope, (for faithful <FI>is<Fi> He who did promise),
23Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering (for he is faithful that hath promised):
24and let us consider one another for provoking to love and good works;
24and may we consider one another to provoke to love and to good works,
24And let us consider one another, to provoke unto charity and to good works:
25not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the custom [is] with some; but encouraging [one another], and by so much the more as ye see the day drawing near.
25not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as a custom of certain <FI>is<Fi> , but exhorting, and so much the more as ye see the day coming nigh.
25Not forsaking our assembly, as some are accustomed: but comforting one anther, and so much the more as you see the day approaching.
26For where we sin wilfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains any sacrifice for sins,
26For we--wilfully sinning after the receiving the full knowledge of the truth--no more for sins doth there remain a sacrifice,
26For if we sin wilfully after having the knowledge of the truth, there is now left no sacrifice for sins:
27but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and heat of fire about to devour the adversaries.
27but a certain fearful looking for of judgment, and fiery zeal, about to devour the opposers;
27But a certain dreadful expectation of judgment, and the rage of a fire which shall consume the adversaries.
28Any one that has disregarded Moses' law dies without mercy on [the testimony of] two or three witnesses:
28any one who did set at nought a law of Moses, apart from mercies, by two or three witnesses, doth die,
28A man making void the law of Moses dieth without any mercy under two or three witnesses:
29of how much worse punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy who has trodden under foot the Son ofGod, and esteemed the blood of the covenant, whereby he has been sanctified, common, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?
29of how much sorer punishment shall he be counted worthy who the Son of God did trample on, and the blood of the covenant did count a common thing, in which he was sanctified, and to the Spirit of the grace did despite?
29How much more, do you think he deserveth worse punishments, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God and hath esteemed the blood of the testament unclean, by which he was sanctified, and hath offered an affront to the Spirit of grace?
30For we know him that said, To me [belongs] vengeance; I will recompense, saith the Lord: and again, The Lord shall judge his people.
30for we have known Him who is saying, `Vengeance <FI>is<Fi> Mine, I will recompense, saith the Lord;' and again, `The Lord shall judge His people;' --
30For we know him that hath said: Vengeance belongeth to me, and I will repay. And again: The Lord shall judge his people.
31[It is] a fearful thing falling into [the] hands of [the] livingGod.
31fearful <FI>is<Fi> the falling into the hands of a living God.
31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
32But call to mind the earlier days in which, having been enlightened, ye endured much conflict of sufferings;
32And call to your remembrance the former days, in which, having been enlightened, ye did endure much conflict of sufferings,
32But call to mind the former days, wherein, being illuminated, you endured a great fight of afflictions.
33on the one hand, when ye were made a spectacle both in reproaches and afflictions; and on the other, when ye became partakers with those who were passing through them.
33partly both with reproaches and tribulations being made spectacles, and partly having become partners of those so living,
33And on the one hand indeed, by reproaches and tribulations, were made a gazingstock; and on the other, became companions of them that were used in such sort.
34For ye both sympathised with prisoners and accepted with joy the plunder of your goods, knowing that ye have for yourselves a better substance, and an abiding one.
34for also with my bonds ye sympathised, and the robbery of your goods with joy ye did receive, knowing that ye have in yourselves a better substance in the heavens, and an enduring one.
34For you both had compassion on them that were in bands and took with joy the being stripped of your own goods, knowing that you have a better and a lasting substance.
35Cast not away therefore your confidence, which has great recompense.
35Ye may not cast away, then, your boldness, which hath great recompense of reward,
35Do not therefore lose your confidence which hath a great reward.
36For ye have need of endurance in order that, having done the will ofGod, ye may receive the promise.
36for of patience ye have need, that the will of God having done, ye may receive the promise,
36For patience is necessary for you: that, doing the will of God, you may receive the promise.
37For yet a very little while he that comes will come, and will not delay.
37for yet a very very little, He who is coming will come, and will not tarry;
37For yet a little and a very little while, and he that is to come will come and will not delay.
