What Hebrews 10:18 means

Because God promises not to remember sins and iniquities, the author concludes that where there is remission—full forgiveness—no further offering for sin is necessary. The sacrificial question is closed. Any attempt to add to Christ’s work misunderstands the new covenant reality. This verse seals the doctrinal argument: Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice, confirmed by the Spirit’s testimony, has rendered the old system obsolete. Believers are freed from anxiety over atonement and can live out of a finished reconciliation. The way to God is open, not through repeated offerings, but through the blood of Jesus already shed.

Context

Verses 15–17 presented the Spirit’s testimony of internalized law and total forgiveness. Verse 18 states the logical outcome: with remission granted, there is no more offering for sin. This wraps up the doctrinal section (vv. 1–18). The author will now pivot in verses 19–25 to practical exhortations rooted in this completed work: bold access to the holy place, a new and living way, and a great priest over God’s house, leading to drawing near, holding fast, and mutual encouragement within the church.

v.17And their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

v.18This passage

v.19Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus,
