John 9

1And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth.

2And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind?

3Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

6When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay,

7and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent). He went away therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

7`Go away, wash at the pool of Siloam,' which is, interpreted, Sent. He went away, therefore, and did wash, and came seeing;

7And said to him, Go and make yourself clean in the bath of Siloam (the sense of the name is, Sent). So he went away and, after washing, came back able to see.

8The neighbors therefore, and they that saw him aforetime, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?

9Others said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am he.

10They said therefore unto him, How then were thine eyes opened?

12And they said unto him, Where is he? He saith, I know not.

15So the Pharisees put more questions to him about how his eyes had been made open. And he said to them, He put earth on my eyes, and I had a wash and am able to see.

16Some therefore of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was a division among them.

16Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

16Of the Pharisees, therefore, certain said, `This man is not from God, because the sabbath he doth not keep;' others said, `How is a man--a sinful one--able to do such signs?' and there was a division among them.

16Then some of the Pharisees said, That man has not come from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath. Others said, How is it possible for a sinner to do such signs? So there was a division among them.

17They say therefore unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, in that he opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.

18The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,

19and asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?

20His parents answered and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

22These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

22These things said his parents, because they were afraid of the Jews, for already had the Jews agreed together, that if any one may confess him--Christ, he may be put out of the synagogue;

23Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.

24So they called a second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is a sinner.

24They called, therefore, a second time the man who was blind, and they said to him, `Give glory to God, we have known that this man is a sinner;'

24So they sent a second time for the man who had been blind and they said to him, Give glory to God: it is clear to us that this man is a sinner.

25He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

25He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

25he answered, therefore, and said, `If he be a sinner--I have not known, one thing I have known, that, being blind, now I see.'

25He said in answer, I have no knowledge if he is a sinner or not, but one thing I am certain about; I was blind, and now I see.

26They said therefore unto him, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?

26Then they said to him, What did he do to you? how did he give you the use of your eyes?

27He answered them, I told you even now, and ye did not hear; wherefore would ye hear it again? would ye also become his disciples?

27He answered them, `I told you already, and ye did not hear; why again do ye wish to hear? do ye also wish to become his disciples?'

27His answer was: I have said it before, but your ears were shut: why would you have me say it again? is it your desire to become his disciples?

28And they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses.

28And they were angry with him and said, You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

29We know that God hath spoken unto Moses: but as for this man, we know not whence he is.

30The man answered and said unto them, Why, herein is the marvel, that ye know not whence he is, and yet he opened mine eyes.

30The man said in answer, Why, here is a strange thing! You have no knowledge where he comes from though he gave me the use of my eyes.

31We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and do his will, him he heareth.

31and we have known that God doth not hear sinners, but, if any one may be a worshipper of God, and may do His will, him He doth hear;

32Since the world began it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind.

32In all the years nobody has ever before seen the eyes of a man blind from birth made open.

33If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.

33If this man did not come from God he would be unable to do anything.

34They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

34They answered and said to him, `In sins thou wast born altogether, and thou dost teach us!' and they cast him forth without.

34Their answer was: You came to birth through sin; do you make yourself our teacher? And they put him out of the Synagogue.

35Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

35Jesus heard that they cast him forth without, and having found him, he said to him, `Dost thou believe in the Son of God?'

36He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him?

36he answered and said, `Who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?'

36He said in answer, And who is he, Lord? Say, so that I may have faith in him.

37Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that speaketh with thee.

37And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.

37And Jesus said to him, `Thou hast both seen him, and he who is speaking with thee is he;'

37Jesus said to him, You have seen him; it is he who is talking to you.

38And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

38and he said, `I believe, sir,' and bowed before him.

38And he said, Lord, I have faith. And he gave him worship.

39And Jesus said, For judgment came I into this world, that they that see not may see; and that they that see may become blind.

39And Jesus said, `For judgment I to this world did come, that those not seeing may see, and those seeing may become blind.'

40Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said unto him, Are we also blind?

40These words came to the ears of the Pharisees who were with him and they said to him, Are we, then, blind?

41Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye would have no sin: but now ye say, We see: your sin remaineth.

41Jesus said to them, `If ye were blind, ye were not having had sin, but now ye say--We see, therefore doth your sin remain.
