Hebrews 10

1For the law, having a shadow of the coming good things, not the image itself of the things, can never, by the same sacrifices which they offer continually yearly, perfect those who approach.

1For the law having a shadow of the goodthingsto come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect them that draw nigh.

1For the law, being only a poor copy of the future good things, and not the true image of those things, is never able to make the people who come to the altar every year with the same offerings completely clean.

2Since, would they not indeed have ceased being offered, on account of the worshippers once purged having no longer any conscience of sins?

2Else would they not have ceased to be offered? because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins.

2For if this had been possible, would there not have been an end of those offerings, because the worshippers would have been made completely clean and would have been no longer conscious of sins?

3But in these [there is] a calling to mind of sins yearly.

3But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance made of sins year by year.

3But year by year there is a memory of sins in those offerings.

4For blood of bulls and goats [is] incapable of taking away sins.

4For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins.

4Because it is not possible for the blood of oxen and goats to take away sins.

5Wherefore coming into the world he says, Sacrifice and offering thou willedst not; but thou hast prepared me a body.

5Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, But a body didst thou prepare for me;

5So that when he comes into the world, he says, You had no desire for offerings, but you made a body ready for me;

6Thou tookest no pleasure in burnt-offerings and sacrifices for sin.

6In whole burnt offerings andsacrificesfor sin thou hadst no pleasure:

6You had no joy in burned offerings or in offerings for sin.

7Then I said, Lo, I come (in [the] roll of the book it is written of me) to do, OGod, thy will.

7Then said I, Lo, I am come (In the roll of the book it is written of me) To do thy will, O God.

7Then I said, See, I have come to do your pleasure, O God (as it is said of me in the roll of the book).

8Above, saying Sacrifices and offerings and burnt-offerings and sacrifices for sin thou willedst not, neither tookest pleasure in (which are offered according to the law);

8Saying above, Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings andsacrificesfor sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein (the which are offered according to the law),

8After saying, You had no desire for offerings, for burned offerings or offerings for sin (which are made by the law) and you had no pleasure in them,

9then he said, Lo, I come to do thy will. He takes away the first that he may establish the second;

9then hath he said, Lo, I am come to do thy will. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

9Then he said, See, I have come to do your pleasure. He took away the old order, so that he might put the new order in its place.

10by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

10By which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

10By that pleasure we have been made holy, by the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for ever.

11And every priest stands daily ministering, and offering often the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.

11And every priest indeed standeth day by day ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, the which can never take away sins:

11And every priest takes his place at the altar day by day, doing what is necessary, and making again and again the same offerings which are never able to take away sins.

12But he, having offered one sacrifice for sins, sat down in perpetuity at [the] right hand ofGod,

12but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

12But when Jesus had made one offering for sins for ever, he took his place at the right hand of God;

13waiting from henceforth until his enemies be set [for the] footstool of his feet.

13henceforth expecting till his enemies be made the footstool of his feet.

13And has been waiting there from that time, till all who are against him are made a foot-rest for his feet.

14For by one offering he has perfected in perpetuity the sanctified.

14For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

14Because by one offering he has made complete for ever those who are made holy.

15And the Holy Spirit also bears us witness [of it]; for after what was said:

15And the Holy Spirit also beareth witness to us; for after he hath said,

15And the Holy Spirit is a witness for us: for after he had said,

16This [is] the covenant which I will establish towards them after those days, saith [the] Lord: Giving my laws into their hearts, I will write them also in their understandings;

16This is the covenant that I will make with them After those days, saith the Lord: I will put my laws on their heart, And upon their mind also will I write them; then saith he,

16This is the agreement which I will make with them after those days, says the Lord; I will put my laws in their hearts, writing them in their minds; he said,

17and their sins and their lawlessnesses I will never remember any more.

17And their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

17And I will keep no more memory of their sins and of their evil-doings.

18But where there [is] remission of these, [there is] no longer a sacrifice for sin.

18Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

18Now where there is forgiveness of these, there is no more offering for sin.

19Having therefore, brethren, boldness for entering into the [holy of] holies by the blood of Jesus,

19Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus,

19So then, my brothers, being able to go into the holy place without fear, because of the blood of Jesus,

20the new and living way which he has dedicated for us through the veil, that is, his flesh,

20by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

20By the new and living way which he made open for us through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

21and [having] a great priest over the house ofGod,

21and having a great priest over the house of God;

21And having a great priest over the house of God,

22let us approach with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, sprinkled as to our hearts from a wicked conscience, and washed as to our body with pure water.

22let us draw near with a true heart in fulness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience: and having our body washed with pure water,

22Let us go in with true hearts, in certain faith, having our hearts made free from the sense of sin and our bodies washed with clean water:

23Let us hold fast the confession of the hope unwavering, (for he [is] faithful who has promised;)

23let us hold fast the confession of our hope that it waver not; for he is faithful that promised:

23Let us keep the witness of our hope strong and unshaking, for he is true who has given his word:

24and let us consider one another for provoking to love and good works;

24and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works;

24And let us be moving one another at all times to love and good works;

25not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the custom [is] with some; but encouraging [one another], and by so much the more as ye see the day drawing near.

25not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as ye see the day drawing nigh.

25Not giving up our meetings, as is the way of some, but keeping one another strong in faith; and all the more because you see the day coming near.

26For where we sin wilfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains any sacrifice for sins,

26For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more a sacrifice for sins,

26For if we do evil on purpose after we have had the knowledge of what is true, there is no more offering for sins,

27but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and heat of fire about to devour the adversaries.

27but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which shall devour the adversaries.

27But only a great fear of being judged, and of the fire of wrath which will be the destruction of the haters of God.

28Any one that has disregarded Moses' law dies without mercy on [the testimony of] two or three witnesses:

28A man that hath set at nought Moses’ law dieth without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses:

28A man who has gone against the law of Moses is put to death without pity on the word of two or three witnesses:

29of how much worse punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy who has trodden under foot the Son ofGod, and esteemed the blood of the covenant, whereby he has been sanctified, common, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

29of how much sorer punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

29But will not the man by whom the Son of God has been crushed under foot, and the blood of the agreement with which he was washed clean has been taken as an unholy thing, and who has had no respect for the Spirit of grace, be judged bad enough for a very much worse punishment?

30For we know him that said, To me [belongs] vengeance; I will recompense, saith the Lord: and again, The Lord shall judge his people.

30For we know him that said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

30For we have had experience of him who says, Punishment is mine, I will give reward. And again, The Lord will be judge of his people.

31[It is] a fearful thing falling into [the] hands of [the] livingGod.

31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

31We may well go in fear of falling into the hands of the living God.

32But call to mind the earlier days in which, having been enlightened, ye endured much conflict of sufferings;

32But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were enlightened, ye endured a great conflict of sufferings;

32But give thought to the days after you had seen the light, when you went through a great war of troubles;

33on the one hand, when ye were made a spectacle both in reproaches and afflictions; and on the other, when ye became partakers with those who were passing through them.

33partly, being made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, becoming partakers with them that were so used.

33In part, in being attacked by angry words and cruel acts, before the eyes of everyone, and in part, in being united with those who were attacked in this way.

34For ye both sympathised with prisoners and accepted with joy the plunder of your goods, knowing that ye have for yourselves a better substance, and an abiding one.

34For ye both had compassion on them that were in bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your possessions, knowing that ye have for yourselves a better possession and an abiding one.

34For you had pity on those who were in prison, and had joy in the loss of your property, in the knowledge that you still had a better property and one which you would keep for ever.

35Cast not away therefore your confidence, which has great recompense.

35Cast not away therefore your boldness, which hath great recompense of reward.

35So do not give up your hope which will be greatly rewarded.

36For ye have need of endurance in order that, having done the will ofGod, ye may receive the promise.

36For ye have need of patience, that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise.

36For, having done what was right in God's eyes, you have need of waiting before his word has effect for you.

37For yet a very little while he that comes will come, and will not delay.

37For yet a very little while, He that cometh shall come, and shall not tarry.

37In a very little time he who is coming will come; he will not be slow.

38But the just shall live by faith; and, if he draw back, my soul does not take pleasure in him.

38But my righteous one shall live by faith: And if he shrink back, my soul hath no pleasure in him.

38But the upright man will be living by his faith; and if he goes back, my soul will have no pleasure in him.

39But we are not drawers back to perdition, but of faith to saving [the] soul.

39But we are not of them that shrink back unto perdition; but of them that have faith unto the saving of the soul.

39But we are not of those who go back to destruction; but of those who have faith even to the salvation of the soul.
