Exodus 12

1And Jehovah spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,

2This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.

2Let this month be to you the first of months, the first month of the year.

2This month shall be to you the beginning of months; it shall be the first in the months of the year.

2`This month <FI>is<Fi> to you the chief of months--it <FI>is<Fi> the first to you of the months of the year;

3Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to their fathers’ houses, a lamb for a household:

3Say to all the children of Israel when they are come together, In the tenth day of this month every man is to take a lamb, by the number of their fathers' families, a lamb for every family:

3Speak ye to the whole assembly of the children of Israel, and say to them: On the tenth day of this month let every man take a lamb by their families and houses.

3speak ye unto all the company of Israel, saying, In the tenth of this month--they take to them each man a lamb for the house of the fathers, a lamb for a house.

4and if the household be too little for a lamb, then shall he and his neighbor next unto his house take one according to the number of the souls; according to every man’s eating ye shall make your count for the lamb.

4And if the lamb is more than enough for the family, let that family and its nearest neighbour have a lamb between them, taking into account the number of persons and how much food is needed for every man.

4But if the number be less than may suffice to eat the lamb, he shall take unto him his neighbour that joineth to his house, according to the number of souls which may be enough to eat the lamb.

4`(And if the household be too few for a lamb, then hath he taken, he and his neighbour who is near unto his house, for the number of persons, each according to his eating ye do count for the lamb,)

5Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old: ye shall take it from the sheep, or from the goats:

5Let your lamb be without a mark, a male in its first year: you may take it from among the sheep or the goats:

5And it shall be a lamb without blemish, a male, of one year; according to which rite also you shall take a kid.

5a lamb, a perfect one, a male, a son of a year, let be to you; from the sheep or from the goats ye do take <FI>it<Fi> .

6and ye shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month; and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at even.

6Keep it till the fourteenth day of the same month, when everyone who is of the children of Israel is to put it to death between sundown and dark.

6And you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month; and the whole multitude of the children of Israel shall sacrifice it in the evening.

6`And it hath become a charge to you, until the fourteenth day of this month, and the whole assembly of the company of Israel have slaughtered it between the evenings;

7And they shall take of the blood, and put it on the two side-posts and on the lintel, upon the houses wherein they shall eat it.

7Then take some of the blood and put it on the two sides of the door and over the door of the house where the meal is to be taken.

7And they shall take of the blood thereof, and put it upon both the side posts, and on the upper door posts of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.

7and they have taken of the blood, and have put on the two side-posts, and on the lintel over the houses in which they eat it.

8And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; with bitter herbs they shall eat it.

8And let your food that night be the flesh of the lamb, cooked with fire in the oven, together with unleavened bread and bitter-tasting plants.

8And they shall eat the flesh that night roasted at the fire, and unleavened bread with wild lettuce.

8`And they have eaten the flesh in this night, roast with fire; with unleavened things and bitters they do eat it;

9Eat not of it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roast with fire; its head with its legs and with the inwards thereof.

9Do not take it uncooked or cooked with boiling water, but let it be cooked in the oven; its head with its legs and its inside parts.

9You shall not eat thereof any thing raw, nor boiled in water, but only roasted at the fire; you shall eat the head with the feet and entrails thereof.

9ye do not eat of it raw, or boiled at all in water, but roast with fire, its head with its legs, and with its inwards;

10And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; but that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.

10Do not keep any of it till the morning; anything which is not used is to be burned with fire.

10Neither shall there remain any thing of it until morning. If there be any thing left, you shall burn it with fire.

10and ye do not leave of it till morning, and that which is remaining of it till morning with fire ye do burn.

11And thus shall ye eat it: with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is Jehovah’s passover.

11And take your meal dressed as if for a journey, with your shoes on your feet and your sticks in your hands: take it quickly: it is the Lord's Passover.

11And thus you shall eat it: you shall gird your reins, and you shall have shoes on your feet, holding staves in your hands, and you shall eat in haste; for it is the Phase (that is the Passage) of the Lord.

11`And thus ye do eat it: your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand, and ye have eaten it in haste; it is Jehovah's passover,

12For I will go through the land of Egypt in that night, and will smite all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am Jehovah.

12For on that night I will go through the land of Egypt, sending death on every first male child, of man and of beast, and judging all the gods of Egypt: I am the Lord.

12And I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and will kill every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast: and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments; I am the Lord.

12and I have passed over through the land of Egypt during this night, and have smitten every first-born in the land of Egypt, from man even unto beast, and on all the gods of Egypt I do judgments; I <FI>am<Fi> Jehovah.

13And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and there shall no plague be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

13And the blood will be a sign on the houses where you are: when I see the blood I will go over you, and no evil will come on you for your destruction, when my hand is on the land of Egypt.

13And the blood shall be unto you for a sign in the houses where you shall be; and I shall see the blood, and shall pass over you; and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I shall strike the land of Egypt.

13`And the blood hath become a sign for you on the houses where ye <FI>are<Fi> , and I have seen the blood, and have passed over you, and a plague is not on you for destruction in My smiting in the land of Egypt.

14And this day shall be unto you for a memorial, and ye shall keep it a feast to Jehovah: throughout your generations ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

14And this day is to be kept in your memories: you are to keep it as a feast to the Lord through all your generations, as an order for ever.

14And this day shall be for a memorial to you; and you shall keep it a feast to the Lord in your generations, with an everlasting observance.

14`And this day hath become to you a memorial, and ye have kept it a feast to Jehovah to your generations; --a statute age-during; ye keep it a feast.

15Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.

15For seven days let your food be unleavened bread; from the first day no leaven is to be seen in your houses: whoever takes bread with leaven in it, from the first till the seventh day, will be cut off from Israel.

15Seven days shall you eat unleavened bread: in the first day there shall be no leaven in your houses; whosoever shall eat any thing leavened, from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall perish out of Israel.

15Seven days ye eat unleavened things; only--in the first day ye cause leaven to cease out of your houses; for any one eating anything fermented from the first day till the seventh day, even that person hath been cut off from Israel.

16And in the first day there shall be to you a holy convocation, and in the seventh day a holy convocation; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done by you.

16And on the first day there is to be a holy meeting and on the seventh day a holy meeting; no sort of work may be done on those days but only to make ready what is necessary for everyone's food.

16The first day shall be holy and solemn, and the seventh day shall be kept with the like solemnity: you shall do no work in them, except those things that belong to eating.

16`And in the first day <FI>is<Fi> a holy convocation, and in the seventh day ye have a holy convocation; any work is not done in them, only that which is eaten by any person--it alone is done by you,

17And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day throughout your generations by an ordinance for ever.

17So keep the feast of unleavened bread; for on this very day I have taken your armies out of the land of Egypt: this day, then, is to be kept through all your generations by an order for ever.

17And you shall observe the feast of the unleavened bread: for in this same day I will bring forth your army out of the land of Egypt, and you shall keep this day in your generations by a perpetual observance.

17and ye have observed the unleavened things, for in this self-same day I have brought out your hosts from the land of Egypt, and ye have observed this day to your generations--a statute age-during.

18In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.

18In the first month, from the evening of the fourteenth day, let your food be unleavened bread till the evening of the twenty-first day of the month.

18The first month, the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, you shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the same month, in the evening.

18`In the first <FI>month<Fi> , in the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, ye do eat unleavened things until the one and twentieth day of the month, at evening;

19Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a sojourner, or one that is born in the land.

19For seven days no leaven is to be seen in your houses: for whoever takes bread which is leavened will be cut off from the people of Israel, if he is from another country or if he is an Israelite by birth.

19Seven days there shall not be found any leaven in your houses: he that shall eat leavened bread, his soul shall perish out of the assembly of Israel, whether he be a stranger or born in the land.

19seven days leaven is not found in your houses, for any <FI>one<Fi> eating anything fermented--that person hath been cut off from the company of Israel, among the sojourners or among the natives of the land;

20Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.

20Take nothing which has leaven in it; wherever you are living let your food be unleavened cakes.

20You shall not eat any thing leavened: in all your habitations you shall eat unleavened bread.

20anything fermented ye do not eat, in all your dwellings ye do eat unleavened things.'

21Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out, and take you lambs according to your families, and kill the passover.

21Then Moses sent for the chiefs of Israel, and said to them, See that lambs are marked out for yourselves and your families, and let the Passover lamb be put to death.

21And Moses called all the ancients of the children of Israel, and said to them: Go take a lamb by your families, and sacrifice the Phase.

21And Moses calleth for all the elders of Israel, and saith unto them, `Draw out and take for yourselves <FI>from<Fi> the flock, for your families, and slaughter the passover-sacrifice;

22And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two side-posts with the blood that is in the basin; and none of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning.

22And take some hyssop and put it in the blood in the basin, touching the two sides and the top of the doorway with the blood from the basin; and let not one of you go out of his house till the morning.

22And dip a bunch of hyssop in the blood that is at the door, and sprinkle the transom of the door therewith, and both the door cheeks: let none of you go out of the door of his house till morning.

22and ye have taken a bunch of hyssop, and have dipped <FI>it<Fi> in the blood which <FI>is<Fi> in the basin, and have struck <FI>it<Fi> on the lintel, and on the two side-posts, from the blood which <FI>is<Fi> in the basin, and ye, ye go not out each from the opening of his house till morning.

23For Jehovah will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side-posts, Jehovah will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.

23For the Lord will go through the land, sending death on the Egyptians; and when he sees the blood on the two sides and the top of the door, the Lord will go over your door and will not let death come in for your destruction.

23For the Lord will pass through striking the Egyptians: and when he shall see the blood on the transom, and on both the posts, he will pass over the door of the house, and not suffer the destroyer to come into your houses and to hurt you.

23`And Jehovah hath passed on to smite the Egyptians, and hath seen the blood on the lintel, and on the two side-posts, and Jehovah hath passed over the opening, and doth not permit the destruction to come into your houses to smite.

24And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.

24And you are to keep this as an order to you and to your sons for ever.

24Thou shalt keep this thing as a law for thee and thy children for ever.

24`And ye have observed this thing, for a statute to thee, and to thy sons--unto the age;

25And it shall come to pass, when ye are come to the land which Jehovah will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.

25And when you come into the land which the Lord will make yours, as he gave his word, you are to keep this act of worship.

25And when you have entered into the land which the Lord will give you, as he hath promised, you shall observe these ceremonies.

25and it hath been, when ye come in unto the land which Jehovah giveth to you, as He hath spoken, that ye have kept this service;

26And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?

26And when your children say to you, What is the reason of this act of worship?

26And when your children shall say to you: What is the meaning of this service?

26and it hath come to pass when your sons say unto you, What <FI>is<Fi> this service ye have?

27that ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of Jehovah’s passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.

27Then you will say, This is the offering of the Lord's Passover; for he went over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he sent death on the Egyptians, and kept our families safe. And the people gave worship with bent heads.

27You shall say to them: It is the victim of the passage of the Lord, when he passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, striking the Egyptians, and saving our houses. And the people bowing themselves, adored.

27that ye have said, A sacrifice of passover it <FI>is<Fi> to Jehovah, who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt, in His smiting the Egyptians, and our houses He delivered.'

28And the children of Israel went and did so; as Jehovah had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.

28And the children of Israel went and did so; as the Lord had given orders to Moses and Aaron, so they did.

28And the children of Israel going forth, did as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron.

28And the people bow and do obeisance, and the sons of Israel go and do as Jehovah commanded Moses and Aaron; so have they done.

29And it came to pass at midnight, that Jehovah smote all the first-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the first-born of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the first-born of cattle.

29And in the middle of the night the Lord sent death on every first male child in the land of Egypt, from the child of Pharaoh on his seat of power to the child of the prisoner in the prison; and the first births of all the cattle.

29And it came to pass at midnight, the Lord slew every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharao, who sat on his throne, unto the firstborn of the captive woman that was in the prison, and all the firstborn of cattle.

29And it cometh to pass, at midnight, that Jehovah hath smitten every first-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh who is sitting on his throne, unto the first-born of the captive who <FI>is<Fi> in the prison-house, and every first-born of beasts.

30And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead.

30Then Pharaoh got up in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians; and a great cry went up from Egypt; for there was not a house where someone was not dead.

30And Pharao arose in the night, and all his servants, and all Egypt: and there arose a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house wherein there lay not one dead.

30And Pharaoh riseth by night, he and all his servants, and all the Egyptians, and there is a great cry in Egypt, for there is not a house where there is not <FI>one<Fi> dead,

31And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve Jehovah, as ye have said.

31And he sent for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Get up and go out from among my people, you and the children of Israel; go and give worship to the Lord as you have said.

31And Pharao calling Moses and Aaron, in the night, said: Arise and go forth from among my people, you and the children of Israel: go, sacrifice to the Lord as you say.

31and he calleth for Moses and for Aaron by night, and saith, `Rise, go out from the midst of my people, both ye and the sons of Israel, and go, serve Jehovah according to your word;

32Take both your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also.

32And take your flocks and your herds as you have said, and be gone; and give me your blessing.

32Your sheep and herds take along with you, as you demanded, and departing bless me.

32both your flock and your herd take ye, as ye have spoken, and go; then ye have blessed also me.'

33And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, to send them out of the land in haste; for they said, We are all dead men.

33And the Egyptians were forcing the people on, to get them out of the land quickly; for they said, We are all dead men.

33And the Egyptians pressed the people to go forth out of the land speedily, saying: We shall all die.

33And the Egyptians are urgent on the people, hasting to send them away out of the land, for they said, `We are all dead;'

34And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading-troughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders.

34And the people took their bread-paste before it was leavened, putting their basins in their clothing on their backs.

34The people therefore took dough before it was leavened; and tying it in their cloaks, put it on their shoulders.

34and the people taketh up its dough before it is fermented, their kneading-troughs <FI>are<Fi> bound up in their garments on their shoulder.

35And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they asked of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment:

35And the children of Israel had done as Moses had said; and they got from the Egyptians ornaments of silver and of gold, and clothing:

35And the children of Israel did as Moses had commanded: and they asked of the Egyptians vessels of silver and gold, and very much raiment.

35And the sons of Israel have done according to the word of Moses, and they ask from the Egyptians vessels of silver and vessels of gold, and garments;

36and Jehovah gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. And they despoiled the Egyptians.

36And the Lord had given the people grace in the eyes of the Egyptians so that they gave them whatever was requested. So they took away all their goods from the Egyptians.

36And the Lord gave favour to the people in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them: and they stripped the Egyptians.

36and Jehovah hath given the grace of the people in the eyes of the Egyptians, and they cause them to ask, and they spoil the Egyptians.

37And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, besides children.

37And the children of Israel made the journey from Rameses to Succoth; there were about six hundred thousand men on foot, as well as children.

37And the children of Israel set forward from Ramesse to Socoth, being about six hundred thousand men on foot, beside children.

37And the sons of Israel journey from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand men on foot, apart from infants;

38And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle.

38And a mixed band of people went with them; and flocks and herds in great numbers.

38And a mixed multitude, without number, went up also with them, sheep and herds, and beasts of divers kinds, exceeding many.

38and a great rabble also hath gone up with them, and flock and herd--very much cattle.

39And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought forth out of Egypt; for it was not leavened, because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any victuals.

39And they made unleavened cakes from the paste which they had taken out of Egypt; it was not leavened, for they had been sent out of Egypt so quickly, that they had no time to make any food ready.

39And they baked the meal, which a little before they had brought out of Egypt in dough: and they made hearth cakes unleavened: for it could not be leavened, the Egyptians pressing them to depart, and not suffering them to make any stay; neither did they think of preparing any meat.

39And they bake with the dough which they have brought out from Egypt unleavened cakes, for it hath not fermented; for they have been cast out of Egypt, and have not been able to delay, and also provision they have not made for themselves.

40Now the time that the children of Israel dwelt in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.

40Now the children of Israel had been living in Egypt for four hundred and thirty years.

40And the abode of the children of Israel that they made in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.

40And the dwelling of the sons of Israel which they have dwelt in Egypt <FI>is<Fi> four hundred and thirty years;

41And it came to pass at the end of four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of Jehovah went out from the land of Egypt.

41And at the end of four hundred and thirty years, to the very day, all the armies of the Lord went out of the land of Egypt.

41Which being expired, the same day all the army of the Lord went forth out of the land of Egypt.

41and it cometh to pass, at the end of four hundred and thirty years--yea, it cometh to pass in this self-same day--all the hosts of Jehovah have gone out from the land of Egypt.

42It is a night to be much observed unto Jehovah for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of Jehovah, to be much observed of all the children of Israel throughout their generations.

42It is a watch-night before the Lord who took them out of the land of Egypt: this same night is a watch-night to the Lord for all the children of Israel, through all their generations.

42This is the observable night of the Lord, when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt: this night all the children of Israel must observe in their generations.

42A night of watchings it <FI>is<Fi> to Jehovah, to bring them out from the land of Egypt; it <FI>is<Fi> this night to Jehovah of watchings to all the sons of Israel to their generations.

43And Jehovah said unto Moses and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the passover: there shall no foreigner eat thereof;

43And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, This is the law of the Passover: no man who is not an Israelite is to take of it:

43And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron: This is the service of the Phase; no foreigner shall eat of it.

43And Jehovah saith unto Moses and Aaron, `This <FI>is<Fi> a statute of the passover; Any son of a stranger doth not eat of it;

44but every man’s servant that is bought for money, when thou hast circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof.

44But every man's servant, whom he has got for money, may take of it, when he has had circumcision.

44But every bought servant shall be circumcised, and so shall eat.

44and any man's servant, the purchase of money, when thou hast circumcised him--then he doth eat of it;

45A sojourner and a hired servant shall not eat thereof.

45A man from a strange country living among you, and a servant working for payment, may not take part in it.

45The stranger and the hireling shall not eat thereof.

45a settler or hired servant doth not eat of it;

46In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth aught of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof.

46It is to be taken in one house; not a bit of the flesh is to be taken out of the house, and no bone of it may be broken.

46In one house shall it be eaten, neither shall you carry forth of the flesh thereof out of the house, neither shall you break a bone thereof.

46in one house it is eaten, thou dost not carry out of the house <FI>any<Fi> of the flesh without, and a bone ye do not break of it;

47All the congregation of Israel shall keep it.

47All Israel is to keep the feast.

47All the assembly of the children of Israel shall keep it.

47all the company of Israel do keep it.

48And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to Jehovah, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: but no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.

48And if a man from another country is living with you, and has a desire to keep the Passover to the Lord, let all the males of his family undergo circumcision, and then let him come near and keep it; for he will then be as one of your people; but no one without circumcision may keep it.

48And if any stranger be willing to dwell among you, and to keep the Phase of the Lord, all his males shall first be circumcised, and then shall he celebrate it according to the manner: and he shall be as he that is born in the land: but if any man be uncircumcised, he shall not eat thereof.

48`And when a sojourner sojourneth with thee, and hath made a passover to Jehovah, every male of his <FI>is<Fi> to be circumcised, and then he doth come near to keep it, and he hath been as a native of the land, but any uncircumcised one doth not eat of it;

49One law shall be to him that is home-born, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.

49The law is the same for him who is an Israelite by birth and for the man from a strange country who is living with you.

49The same law shall be to him that is born in the land, and to the proselyte that sojourneth with you.

49one law is to a native, and to a sojourner who is sojourning in your midst.'

50Thus did all the children of Israel; as Jehovah commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.

50So the children of Israel did as the Lord gave orders to Moses and Aaron.

50And all the children of Israel did as the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron.

50And all the sons of Israel do as Jehovah commanded Moses and Aaron; so have they done.

51And it came to pass the selfsame day, that Jehovah did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their hosts.

51And on that very day the Lord took the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.

51And the same day the Lord brought forth the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their companies.

51And it cometh to pass in this self-same day, Jehovah hath brought out the sons of Israel from the land of Egypt, by their hosts.
