What Romans 11:36 means

Paul concludes with a sweeping confession: all things are from God as their source, through God as their sustainer, and to God as their goal. He is the Alpha and Omega of creation and redemption. This caps the argument by placing Israel, the Gentiles, the church, and history itself under God’s sovereign orchestration. Because everything flows from His wisdom and mercy, glory rightly belongs to Him forever. The verse calls readers to a God-centered vision of life and salvation. Our place is responsive praise, humble trust, and joyful submission to the One who authors and completes His gracious plan.

Context

This final verse closes the doxology (verses 33–36) and, in a sense, the theological section of Romans 9–11. It gathers the themes of divine initiative, sustaining grace, and ultimate purpose into a single ascription of glory. With this, Paul ends the discussion of Israel’s present hardening and future hope, and transitions in the next chapter to practical exhortations grounded in the mercies of God just extolled.
