What Hebrews 2:10 means
It “became” God—that is, it was fitting with his character and purpose—to make the author (pioneer, captain) of salvation perfect through sufferings as he brings many sons to glory. “Perfect” here means fully qualified, made complete for his saving role, not morally improved. Through suffering, Jesus was equipped as the representative and mediator who knows the path from humiliation to glory. God’s goal is a family of glorified sons, and the means honors both his justice and mercy. Christ’s sufferings were not an unfortunate detour but the ordained route by which he secured and leads his people into the destined dominion and honor Psalm 8 foretold.

Context
Flowing from verse 9’s depiction of Jesus’ suffering leading to crown, verse 10 explains the divine necessity and wisdom of that path. The imagery of a pioneer leading many sons connects Psalm 8’s human destiny to believers’ future. Verses 11–13 will unpack the solidarity that makes this possible: the Sanctifier and the sanctified share one origin, and Scripture testifies that he calls them brothers. This family bond is crucial for the next step (vv.14–15), where his shared humanity becomes the means to destroy the devil’s hold through death.
v.9But we behold him who hath been made a little lower than the angels, even Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for every man.
v.10This passage
v.11For both he that sanctifieth and they that are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
