Bible Verses for When Prayer Feels Empty

Even Jesus's closest friends fell asleep during prayer (Mark 14:37). Scripture doesn't grade prayer on feeling. The Spirit prays when you cannot, and a single honest sentence is enough. These verses are permission to begin small.

Pray this

Pray one sentence out loud. Any sentence. That counts.

"In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don't know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can't be uttered."

"In praying, don't use vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do… for your Father knows what things you need, before you ask him."

"Trust in him at all times, you people. Pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us."

"Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened to you."

Frequently asked questions

  • Yes. Scripture grounds prayer in God's faithfulness, not your feelings. Romans 8:26 says the Spirit himself intercedes when you can't find words.
