What Mark 11:9 means

Both those who went ahead of Jesus and those who followed Him began to shout "Hosanna!" which means "Save, we pray!" They blessed Him as the one who comes "in the name of the Lord." This acclamation clearly identifies Jesus with the long-awaited Messiah, drawing from Psalm 118:25-26. Their cries recognized Him as the divinely appointed deliverer, entering Jerusalem with God's authority and blessing.

Context

Following the visual display of honor with cloaks and branches in verse 8, this verse introduces the verbal acclamations of the crowd. These shouts of "Hosanna" and blessings articulate their belief in Jesus's messianic role, directly setting up the further declaration of His kingdom in the next verse and forming the spiritual core of the triumphal entry.

v.8And many spread their garments upon the way; and others branches, which they had cut from the fields.

v.9This passage

v.10Blessed is the kingdom that cometh, the kingdom of our father David: Hosanna in the highest.
