What Matthew 11:1 means

After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples for their mission, he moved on to continue his own ministry of teaching and preaching in the Galilean towns. This verse highlights Jesus' continuous dedication to proclaiming the Kingdom of God, even as he commissioned others to do the same. His departure to other cities signifies the expansive reach of his message and his personal commitment to evangelism, leading by example for his newly appointed apostles. It shows a seamless transition from equipping his followers to actively engaging in public ministry himself.

Context

This verse opens chapter 11 by transitioning from the previous chapter's account of Jesus sending out his disciples. Having given them their commission, Jesus himself now resumes his public ministry. This sets the stage for the events to follow, particularly John the Baptist's inquiry, as it establishes Jesus' ongoing activity and presence in the region, which is what John hears about.
