Capernaum
The fishing town on the Sea of Galilee that became the headquarters of Jesus' ministry.

Capernaum stood on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee, on the major road from Damascus to the Mediterranean. It had a Roman customs post and a synagogue built by a sympathetic centurion. Peter, Andrew, James, and John worked from its harbor.
Matthew calls Capernaum Jesus' 'own city' (Matthew 9:1). Many of his great miracles happened there — the centurion's servant healed, Peter's mother-in-law raised, the paralytic lowered through the roof, the demoniac in the synagogue restored. Jesus pronounced woe upon it for unbelief despite the works done in its midst (Matthew 11:23-24).
