1Now we that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.

1Those of us who are strong in faith should help the weak with their struggles and not just do what pleases ourselves.

2Let each one of us please his neighbor for that which is good, unto edifying.

2Each of us should please our neighbors for their own good, to help them grow stronger in their faith.

3For Christ also pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell upon me.

3For even Christ did not live to please himself. As the Scriptures say, 'The insults of those who insulted you have fallen on me.'

4For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope.

4Everything written in the Scriptures long ago was written to teach us. They give us patience and encouragement so that we can have hope.

5Now the God of patience and of comfort grant you to be of the same mind one with another according to Christ Jesus:

5May the God who gives patience and encouragement help you live in complete harmony with each other, following the example of Christ Jesus.

6that with one accord ye may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

6Then all of you can join together with one voice to give glory to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

7Wherefore receive ye one another, even as Christ also received you, to the glory of God.

7So accept each other just as Christ accepted you, so that God will receive the glory.

8For I say that Christ hath been made a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, that he might confirm the promises given unto the fathers,

8Remember that Christ came as a servant to the Jews to show that God is true and to confirm the promises made to their ancestors.

9and that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written, Therefore will I give praise unto thee among the Gentiles, And sing unto thy name.

9He also came so that the Gentiles might give glory to God for his mercy. As the Scriptures say, 'Therefore I will praise you among the Gentiles; I will sing hymns to your name.'

10And again he saith, Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.

10And in another place it says, 'Rejoice with his people, you Gentiles.'

11And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; And let all the peoples praise him.

11And again, 'Praise the Lord, all you Gentiles; let all the people praise him.'

12And again, Isaiah saith, There shall be the root of Jesse, And he that ariseth to rule over the Gentiles; On him shall the Gentiles hope.

12And Isaiah said, 'A descendant of Jesse will come to rule the Gentiles, and they will put their hope in him.'

13Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

13I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

14And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another.

14My brothers and sisters, I am convinced that you are full of goodness and have all the knowledge you need to teach and warn each other.

15But I write the more boldly unto you in some measure, as putting you again in remembrance, because of the grace that was given me of God,

15But I have written quite boldly to you on some points to remind you of them. I do this because of the special grace God gave me,

16that I should be a minister of Christ Jesus unto the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be made acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

16to be a servant of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. I serve as a priest by telling the Good News of God, so that the Gentiles may be an acceptable offering to him, made holy by the Holy Spirit.

17I have therefore my glorying in Christ Jesus in things pertaining to God.

17So I have reason to be proud in Christ Jesus of the work I have done for God.

18For I will not dare to speak of any things save those which Christ wrought through me, for the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed,

18I will not dare to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to bring the Gentiles to obey God by what I have said and done.

19in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Holy Spirit; so that from Jerusalem, and round about even unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ;

19He has done this through the power of signs and wonders, and through the power of the Holy Spirit. So, from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully preached the Good News of Christ.

20yea, making it my aim so to preach the gospel, not where Christ was already named, that I might not build upon another man’s foundation;

20My ambition has always been to preach the Good News where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on a foundation someone else had already laid.

21but, as it is written, They shall see, to whom no tidings of him came, And they who have not heard shall understand.

21As the Scriptures say, 'Those who were never told about him will see, and those who have never heard will understand.'

22Wherefore also I was hindered these many times from coming to you:

22This is why I have been prevented from coming to visit you so many times.

23but now, having no more any place in these regions, and having these many years a longing to come unto you,

23But now that I have finished my work in these regions, and since I have been longing to see you for many years,

24whensoever I go unto Spain (for I hope to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first in some measure I shall have been satisfied with your company)—

24I plan to visit you when I go to Spain. I hope to see you as I pass through and have you help me on my journey, after I have enjoyed your company for a little while.碎

25but now, I say, I go unto Jerusalem, ministering unto the saints.

25But right now, I am going to Jerusalem to serve the believers there.

26For it hath been the good pleasure of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints that are at Jerusalem.

26For the believers in Macedonia and Achaia were happy to give a gift of money to the poor among the believers in Jerusalem.

27Yea, it hath been their good pleasure; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, they owe it to them also to minister unto them in carnal things.

27They were happy to do it, and they really owe it to them. Since the Gentiles have shared in the spiritual blessings of the Jews, they ought to serve the Jews with material blessings.

28When therefore I have accomplished this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will go on by you unto Spain.

28As soon as I have finished this task and made sure they have received the money, I will leave for Spain and visit you on the way.

29And I know that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of Christ.

29And I am sure that when I come, I will bring the full blessing of Christ with me.

30Now I beseech you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;

30I beg you, brothers and sisters, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love that the Spirit gives, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me.

31that I may be delivered from them that are disobedient in Judæa, and that my ministration which I have for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints;

31Pray that I will be rescued from those in Judea who refuse to believe, and that the help I am taking to Jerusalem will be accepted by the believers there.

32that I may come unto you in joy through the will of God, and together with you find rest.

32Then, if it is God's will, I can come to you with a joyful heart and be refreshed by my time with you.

33Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

33May the God of peace be with you all. Amen.
