What Romans 15:7 means

Because the end goal is God’s glory, believers must receive one another as Christ has received them. Mutual welcome is not mere tolerance; it is a gospel-shaped embrace across differences. Christ welcomed us at great cost and without preconditions other than repentance and faith. That generous reception becomes the pattern for the church, especially in a mixed congregation of Jews and Gentiles and of strong and weak consciences. When we accept one another on Christ’s terms, God’s glory is displayed: He is seen as the gracious Father who gathers a redeemed family around His Son.

Context

After praying for harmony that leads to unified praise (vv.5–6), Paul now issues a direct charge: welcome one another as Christ welcomed you (v.7). This command bridges the relational exhortations to the theological foundation in verses 8–12, where Paul shows Christ’s ministry to Jews and the Scriptural promise of Gentile praise. Receiving one another is not optional politeness; it flows from Christ’s mission and fulfills God’s plan for a united people.

v.6that with one accord ye may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

v.7This passage

v.8For I say that Christ hath been made a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, that he might confirm the promises given unto the fathers,
