1But him that is weak in faith receive ye, yet not for decision of scruples.

1Accept anyone whose faith is weak, but do not argue with them about their personal opinions.

2One man hath faith to eat all things: but he that is weak eateth herbs.

2One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another person, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables.

3Let not him that eateth set at nought him that eateth not; and let not him that eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.

3The person who eats everything must not look down on the one who does not, and the person who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, because God has accepted them.

4Who art thou that judgest the servant of another? to his own lord he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be made to stand; for the Lord hath power to make him stand.

4Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? It is up to their own master whether they succeed or fail. And they will succeed, because the Lord has the power to make them stand firm.

5One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let each man be fully assured in his own mind.

5One person considers one day more sacred than others, while another person considers every day to be the same. Everyone should be fully convinced in their own mind.

6He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord: and he that eateth, eateth unto the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, unto the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

6Whoever treats a certain day as special does it to honor the Lord. Whoever eats meat does it to honor the Lord, because they give thanks to God. And whoever refuses to eat meat does it to honor the Lord and also gives thanks to God.

7For none of us liveth to himself, and none dieth to himself.

7None of us lives only for ourselves, and none of us dies only for ourselves.

8For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; or whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.

8If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

9For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

9Christ died and came back to life for this very reason: so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

10But thou, why dost thou judge thy brother? or thou again, why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment-seat of God.

10So why do you judge your brother or sister? Or why do you look down on them? We will all stand before God’s judgment seat.

11For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, to me every knee shall bow, And every tongue shall confess to God.

11For it is written: 'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me, and every tongue will acknowledge God.'

12So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God.

12So then, each of us will have to give an account of ourselves to God.

13Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge ye this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock in his brother’s way, or an occasion of falling.

13Therefore, let’s stop judging each other. Instead, decide never to put a hurdle or a trap in the way of a brother or sister.

14I know, and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself: save that to him who accounteth anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

14Because I belong to the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced that no food is unclean in itself. But if someone thinks something is unclean, then for that person it is unclean.

15For if because of meat thy brother is grieved, thou walkest no longer in love. Destroy not with thy meat him for whom Christ died.

15If your brother or sister is upset because of what you eat, you are no longer acting out of love. Do not destroy someone for whom Christ died just because of food.

16Let not then your good be evil spoken of:

16Do not let what you consider good be spoken of as if it were evil.

17for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

17For the kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

18For he that herein serveth Christ is well-pleasing to God, and approved of men.

18Anyone who serves Christ in this way pleases God and is respected by others.

19So then let us follow after things which make for peace, and things whereby we may edify one another.

19So let’s aim for the things that bring peace and the things that help us build each other up.

20Overthrow not for meat’s sake the work of God. All things indeed are clean; howbeit it is evil for that man who eateth with offence.

20Do not destroy God’s work for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a person to eat something that causes someone else to stumble.

21It is good not to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor to do anything whereby thy brother stumbleth.

21It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall.

22The faith which thou hast, have thou to thyself before God. Happy is he that judgeth not himself in that which he approveth.

22Whatever you believe about these things, keep it between yourself and God. Blessed is the person who does not feel guilty about the things they allow themselves to do.

23But he that doubteth is condemned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith; and whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

23But if someone has doubts and still eats, they are condemned, because their eating is not based on faith. Everything that does not come from faith is sin.
