1Paul, a prisoner of Jesus Christ, and Timothy our brother, to Philemon, our dear helper in the faith,
1Paul, prisoner of Christ Jesus, and Timotheus the brother, to Philemon the beloved and our fellow-workman,
2And to Apphia, our sister, and to Archippus, our brother in God's army, and to the church in your house:
2and to the sister Apphia and to Archippus our fellow-soldier, and to the assembly which [is] in thine house.
3Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3Grace to you and peace fromGod our Father, and [the] Lord Jesus Christ.
4I give praise to God at all times and make prayer for you,
4I thank myGod, always making mention of thee at my prayers,
5Hearing of the love and the faith which you have to the Lord Jesus and to all the saints;
5hearing of thy love and the faith which thou hast towards the Lord Jesus, and towards all the saints,
6That the faith which you have in common with them may be working with power, in the knowledge of every good thing in you, for Christ.
6in such sort that thy participation in the faith should become operative in the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in us towards Christ [Jesus].
7For I had great joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been made strong again through you, brother.
7For we have great thankfulness and encouragement through thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.
8And so, though I might, in the name of Christ, give you orders to do what is right,
8Wherefore having much boldness in Christ to enjoin thee what is fitting,
9Still, because of love, in place of an order, I make a request to you, I, Paul, an old man and now a prisoner of Christ Jesus:
9for love's sake I rather exhort, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also prisoner of Jesus Christ.
10My request is for my child Onesimus, the child of my chains,
10I exhort thee for my child, whom I have begotten in [my] bonds, Onesimus,
11Who in the past was of no profit to you, but now is of profit to you and to me:
11once unserviceable to thee, but now serviceable to thee and to me:
12Whom I have sent back to you, him who is my very heart:
12whom I have sent back to thee: [but do thou receive] him, that is, my bowels:
13Though my desire was to keep him with me, to be my servant in the chains of the good news, in your place:
13whom I was desirous of keeping with myself, that for thee he might minister to me in the bonds of the glad tidings;
14But without your approval I would do nothing; so that your good works might not be forced, but done freely from your heart.
14but I have wished to do nothing without thy mind, that thy good might not be as of necessity but of willingness:
15For it is possible that for this reason he was parted from you for a time, so that you might have him for ever;
15for perhaps for this reason he has been separated [from thee] for a time, that thou mightest possess him fully for ever;
16No longer as a servant, but more than a servant, a brother, very dear to me specially, but much more to you, in the flesh as well as in the Lord.
16not any longer as a bondman, but above a bondman, a beloved brother, specially to me, and how much rather to thee, both in [the] flesh and in [the] Lord?
17If then you take me to be your friend and brother, take him in as myself.
17If therefore thou holdest me to be a partner [with thee], receive him as me;
18If he has done you any wrong or is in debt to you for anything, put it to my account.
18but if he have wronged thee anything or owe anything [to thee], put this to my account.
19I, Paul, writing this myself, say, I will make payment to you: and I do not say to you that you are in debt to me even for your life.
19I Paul have written [it] with mine own hand; I will repay [it]: that I say not to thee that thou owest even thine own self also to me.
20So brother, let me have joy of you in the Lord: give new life to my heart in Christ.
20Yea, brother, I would have profit of thee in [the] Lord: refresh my bowels in Christ.
21Being certain that you will do my desire, I am writing to you, in the knowledge that you will do even more than I say.
21Being confident of thine obedience, I have written to thee, knowing that thou wilt do even more than I say.
22And make a room ready for me; for I am hoping that through your prayers I will be given to you.
22But withal prepare me also a lodging; for I hope that I shall be granted to you through your prayers.
23Epaphras, my brother-prisoner in Christ Jesus, sends you his love;
23Epaphras salutes thee, my fellow-prisoner in Christ Jesus;
