Matthew 13

1And that [same] day Jesus went out from the house and sat down by the sea.

12for whoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall be caused to be in abundance; but he who has not, even what he has shall be taken away from him.

12Because whoever has, to him will be given, and he will have more; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

13For this cause I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear nor understand;

13For this reason I put things into the form of stories; because they see without seeing, and give ear without hearing, and the sense is not clear to them.

14and in them is filled up the prophecy of Esaias, which says, Hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand, and beholding ye shall behold and not see;

14And the prophecy of Isaias is fulfilled in them, who saith: By hearing you shall hear, and shall not understand: and seeing you shall see, and shall not perceive.

14And for them the words of Isaiah have come true, Though you give ear, you will not get knowledge; and seeing, you will see, but the sense will not be clear to you:

14And unto them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand; And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive:

15for the heart of this people has grown fat, and they have heard heavily with their ears, and they have closed their eyes as asleep, lest they should see with the eyes, and hear with the ears, and understand with the heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

15For the heart of this people is grown gross, and with their ears they have been dull of hearing, and their eyes they have shut: lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.

15For the heart of this people has become fat and their ears are slow in hearing and their eyes are shut; for fear that they might see with their eyes and give hearing with their ears and become wise in their hearts and be turned again to me, so that I might make them well.

15For this people’s heart is waxed gross, And their ears are dull of hearing, And their eyes they have closed; Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And should turn again, And I should heal them.

16But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear;

17for verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous [men] have desired to see the things which ye behold and did not see [them], and to hear the things which ye hear and did not hear [them].

17For truly, I say to you that prophets and upright men had a desire to see the things which you see, and saw them not; and to have knowledge of the words which have come to your ears, and they had it not.

18Ye, therefore, hear the parable of the sower.

19From every one who hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand [it], the wicked one comes and catches away what was sown in his heart: this is he that is sown by the wayside.

19When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, there cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart: this is he that received the seed by the way side.

19When the word of the kingdom comes to anyone, and the sense of it is not clear to him, then the Evil One comes, and quickly takes away that which was put in his heart. He is the seed dropped by the wayside.

19When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the evil one, and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side.

20But he that is sown on the rocky places — this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy,

20And he that received the seed upon stony ground, is he that heareth the word, and immediately receiveth it with joy.

20And that which went on the stones, this is he who, hearing the word, straight away takes it with joy;

21but has no root in himself, but is for a time only; and when tribulation or persecution happens on account of the word, he is immediately offended.

21Yet hath he not root in himself, but is only for a time: and when there ariseth tribulation and persecution because of the word, he is presently scandalized.

21But having no root in himself, he goes on for a time; and when trouble comes or pain, because of the word, he quickly becomes full of doubts.

22And he that is sown among the thorns — this is he who hears the word, and the anxious care of this life, and the deceit of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.

22And he that received the seed among thorns, is he that heareth the word, and the care of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choketh up the word, and he becometh fruitless.

22And that which was dropped among the thorns, this is he who has the word; and the cares of this life, and the deceits of wealth, put a stop to the growth of the word and it gives no fruit.

22And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

23But he that is sown upon the good ground — this is he who hears and understands the word, who bears fruit also, and produces, one a hundred, one sixty, and one thirty.

23But he that received the seed upon good ground, is he that heareth the word, and understandeth, and beareth fruit, and yieldeth the one an hundredfold, and another sixty, and another thirty.

23And the seed which was put in good earth, this is he who gives ear to the word, and gets the sense of it; who gives fruit, some a hundred, some sixty, some thirty times as much.

24Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens has become like a man sowing good seed in his field;

25but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed darnel amongst the wheat, and went away.

26But when the blade shot up and produced fruit, then appeared the darnel also.

26And when the blade was sprung up, and had brought forth fruit, then appeared also the cockle.

26But when the green stem came up and gave fruit, the evil plants were seen at the same time.

27And the bondmen of the householder came up and said to him, Sir, hast thou not sown good seed in thy field? whence then has it darnel?

27And the servants of the good man of the house coming said to him. Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? Whence then hath it cockle?

27And the servants of the master of the house came and said to him, Sir, did you not put good seed in your field? how then has it evil plants?

27And the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst thou not sow good seed in thy field? whence then hath it tares?

28And he said to them, A man [that is] an enemy has done this. And the bondmen said to him, Wilt thou then that we should go and gather it [up]?

28And he said to them: An enemy hath done this. And the servants said to him: Wilt thou that we go and gather it up?

28And he said, Someone has done this in hate. And the servants say to him, Is it your pleasure that we go and take them up?

28And he said unto them, An enemy hath done this. And the servants say unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29But he said, No; lest [in] gathering the darnel ye should root up the wheat with it.

29And he said: No, lest perhaps gathering up the cockle, you root up the wheat also together with it.

29But he says, No, for fear that by chance while you take up the evil plants, you may be rooting up the grain with them.

29But he saith, Nay; lest haply while ye gather up the tares, ye root up the wheat with them.

30Suffer both to grow together unto the harvest, and in time of the harvest I will say to the harvestmen, Gather first the darnel, and bind it into bundles to burn it; but the wheat bring together into my granary.

30Suffer both to grow until the harvest, and in the time of the harvest I will say to the reapers: Gather up first the cockle, and bind it into bundles to burn, but the wheat gather ye into my barn.

30Let them come up together till the getting in of the grain; and then I will say to the workers, Take up first the evil plants, and put them together for burning: but put the grain into my store-house.

31Another parable set he before them, saying, The kingdom of the heavens is like a grain of mustard [seed] which a man took and sowed in his field;

32Which is smaller than all seeds; but when it has come up it is greater than the plants, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of heaven come and make their resting-places in its branches.

33He spoke another parable to them: The kingdom of the heavens is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal until it had been all leavened.

35so that that should be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things hidden from [the] world's foundation.

37But he answering said, He that sows the good seed is the Son of man,

38and the field is the world; and the good seed, these are the sons of the kingdom, but the darnel are the sons of the evil [one];

38And the field is the world. And the good seed are the children of the kingdom. And the cockle are the children of the wicked one.

39and the enemy who has sowed it is the devil; and the harvest is [the] completion of [the] age, and the harvestmen are angels.

39And the enemy that sowed them, is the devil. But the harvest is the end of the world. And the reapers are the angels.

39And he who put them in the earth is Satan; and the getting in of the grain is the end of the world; and those who get it in are the angels.

43Then the righteous shall shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He that has ears, let him hear.

44The kingdom of the heavens is like a treasure hid in the field, which a man having found has hid, and for the joy of it goes and sells all whatever he has, and buys that field.

44The kingdom of heaven is like unto a treasure hidden in a field. Which a man having found, hid it, and for joy thereof goeth, and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

44The kingdom of heaven is like a secret store of wealth in a field, which a man came across and put back again; and in his joy he goes and gives all he has, to get that field.

45Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls;

46and having found one pearl of great value, he went and sold all whatever he had and bought it.

47Again, the kingdom of the heavens is like a seine which has been cast into the sea, and which has gathered together of every kind,

49Thus shall it be in the completion of the age: the angels shall go forth and sever the wicked from the midst of the just,

52And he said to them, For this reason every scribe discipled to the kingdom of the heavens is like a man [that is] a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.

52He said unto them: Therefore every scribe instructed in the kingdom of heaven, is like to a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure new things and old.

52And he said to them, For this reason every scribe who has become a disciple of the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house, who gives out from his store things new and old.

52And he said unto them, Therefore every scribe who hath been made a disciple to the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old.

53And it came to pass when Jesus had finished these parables he withdrew thence.

54And having come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, Whence has this [man] this wisdom and these works of power?

55Is not this the son of the carpenter? Is not his mother called Mary, and his brethren James, and Joseph, and Simon, and Judas?

56And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then has this [man] all these things?

57And they were offended in him. And Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honour, unless in his country and in his house.

57And they were bitter against him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is nowhere without honour but in his country and among his family.

58And he did not there many works of power, because of their unbelief.

58And he wrought not many miracles there, because of their unbelief.

58And the works of power which he did there were small in number because they had no faith.
