1And afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said unto Pharaoh, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.
1And after that, Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh, and said, The Lord, the God of Israel, says, Let my people go so that they may keep a feast to me in the waste land.
1After these things, Moses and Aaron went in, and said to Pharao: Thus saith the Lord God of Israel: Let my people go, that they may sacrifice to me in the desert.
1And afterwards have Moses and Aaron entered, and they say unto Pharaoh, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Send My people away, and they keep a feast to Me in the wilderness;'
2And Pharaoh said, Who is Jehovah, that I should hearken unto his voice to let Israel go? I know not Jehovah, and moreover I will not let Israel go.
2And Pharaoh said, Who is the Lord, to whose voice I am to give ear and let Israel go? I have no knowledge of the Lord and I will not let Israel go.
2But he answered: Who is the Lord, that I should hear his voice, and let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go.
2and Pharaoh saith, `Who <FI>is<Fi> Jehovah, that I hearken to His voice, to send Israel away? I have not known Jehovah, and Israel also I do not send away.'
3And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days’ journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice unto Jehovah our God, lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.
3And they said, The God of the Hebrews has come to us: let us then go three days' journey into the waste land to make an offering to the Lord our God, so that he may not send death on us by disease or the sword.
3And they said: The God of the Hebrews hath called us, to go three days' journey into the wilderness, and to sacrifice to the Lord our God; lest a pestilence or the sword fall upon us.
3And they say, `The God of the Hebrews hath met with us, let us go, we pray thee, a journey of three days into the wilderness, and we sacrifice to Jehovah our God, lest He meet us with pestilence or with sword.'
4And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, loose the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.
4And the king of Egypt said to them, Why do you, Moses and Aaron, take the people away from their work? get back to your work.
4The king of Egypt said to them: Why do you Moses and Aaron draw off the people from their works? Get you gone to your burdens.
4And the king of Egypt saith unto them, `Why, Moses and Aaron, do ye free the people from its works? go to your burdens.'
5And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land are now many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.
5And Pharaoh said, Truly, the people of the land are increasing in number, and you are keeping them back from their work.
5And Pharao said: The people of the land are numerous; you see that the multitude is increased; how much more if you give them rest from their works?
5Pharaoh also saith, `Lo, numerous now <FI>is<Fi> the people of the land, and ye have caused them to cease from their burdens!'
6And the same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,
6The same day Pharaoh gave orders to the overseers and those who were responsible for the work, saying,
6Therefore he commanded the same day the overseers of the works, and the task-masters of the people, saying:
6And Pharaoh commandeth, on that day, the exactors among the people and its authorities, saying,
7Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.
7Give these men no more dry stems for their brick-making as you have been doing; let them go and get the material for themselves.
7You shall give straw no more to the people to make brick, as before; but let them go and gather straw.
7`Ye do not add to give straw to the people for the making of the bricks, as heretofore--they go and have gathered straw for themselves;
8And the number of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish aught thereof: for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.
8But see that they make the same number of bricks as before, and no less: for they have no love for work; and so they are crying out and saying, Let us go and make an offering to our God.
8And you shall lay upon them the task of bricks, which they did before; neither shall you diminish any thing thereof, for they are idle, and therefore they cry. saying: Let us go and sacrifice to our God.
8and the proper quantity of the bricks which they are making heretofore ye do put on them, ye do not diminish from it, for they are remiss, therefore they are crying, saying, Let us go, let us sacrifice to our God;
9Let heavier work be laid upon the men, that they may labor therein; and let them not regard lying words.
9Give the men harder work, and see that they do it; let them not give attention to false words.
9Let them be oppressed with works, and let them fulfil them; that they may not regard lying words.
9let the service be heavy on the men, and let them work at it, and not be dazzled by lying words.'
10And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.
10And the overseers of the people and their responsible men went out and said to the people, Pharaoh says, I will give you no more dry stems.
10And the overseers of the works, and the taskmasters, went out and said to the people: Thus saith Pharao: I allow you no straw;
10And the exactors of the people, and its authorities, go out, and speak unto the people, saying, `Thus said Pharaoh, I do not give you straw,
11Go yourselves, get you straw where ye can find it: for nought of your work shall be diminished.
11Go yourselves and get dry stems wherever you are able; for your work is not to be any less.
11Go, and gather it where you can find it; neither shall any thing of your work be diminished.
11ye--go ye, take for yourselves straw where ye find <FI>it<Fi> , for there is nothing of your service diminished.'
12So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.
12So the people were sent in all directions through the land of Egypt to get dry grass for stems.
12And the people was scattered through all the land of Egypt to gather straw.
12And the people is scattered over all the land of Egypt, to gather stubble for straw,
13And the taskmasters were urgent saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.
13And the overseers went on driving them and saying, Do your full day's work as before when there were dry stems for you.
13And the overseers of the works pressed them, saying: Fulfil your work every day, as before ye were wont to do, when straw was given you.
13and the exactors are making haste, saying, `Complete your works, the matter of a day in its day, as when there is straw.'
14And the officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task both yesterday and to-day, in making brick as heretofore?
14And the responsible men of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's overseers had put over them, were given blows, and they said to them, Why have you not done your regular work, in making bricks as before?
14And they that were over the works of the children of Israel, were scourged by Pharao's taskmasters, saying: Why have you not made up the task of bricks, both yesterday and to day, as before?
14And the authorities of the sons of Israel, whom the exactors of Pharaoh have placed over them, are beaten, saying, `Wherefore have ye not completed your portion in making brick as heretofore, both yesterday and to-day?'
15Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?
15Then the responsible men of the children of Israel came to Pharaoh, protesting and saying, Why are you acting in this way to your servants?
15And the officers of the children of Israel came, and cried out to Pharao, saying: Why dealest thou so with thy servants?
15And the authorities of the sons of Israel come in and cry unto Pharaoh, saying, `Why dost thou thus to thy servants?
16There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people.
16They give us no dry stems and they say to us, Make bricks: and they give your servants blows; but it is your people who are in the wrong.
16Straw is not given us, and bricks are required of us as before; behold we, thy servants, are beaten with whips, and thy people is unjustly dealt withal.
16Straw is not given to thy servants, and they are saying to us, Make bricks, and lo, thy servants are smitten--and thy people hath sinned.'
17But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and sacrifice to Jehovah.
17But he said, You have no love for work: that is why you say, Let us go and make an offering to the Lord.
17And he said: You are idle, and therefore you say: Let us go and sacrifice to the Lord.
17And he saith, `Remiss--ye are remiss, therefore ye are saying, Let us go, let us sacrifice to Jehovah;
18Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the number of bricks.
18Go now, get back to your work; no dry stems will be given to you, but you are to make the full number of bricks.
18Go therefore and work: straw shall not be given you, and you shall deliver the accustomed number of bricks.
18and now, go, serve; and straw is not given to you, and the measure of bricks ye do give.'
19And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, when it was said, Ye shall not diminish aught from your bricks, your daily tasks.
19Then the responsible men of the children of Israel saw that they were purposing evil when they said, The number of bricks which you have to make every day will be no less than before.
19And the officers of the children of Israel saw that they were in evil case, because it was said to them: There shall not a whit be diminished of the bricks for every day.
19And the authorities of the sons of Israel see them in affliction, saying, `Ye do not diminish from your bricks; the matter of a day in its day.'
20And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:
20And they came face to face with Moses and Aaron, who were in their way when they came out from Pharaoh:
20And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood over against them as they came out from Pharao:
20And they meet Moses and Aaron standing to meet them, in their coming out from Pharaoh,
21and they said unto them, Jehovah look upon you, and judge: because ye have made our savor to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.
21And they said to them, May the Lord take note of you and be your judge; for you have given Pharaoh and his servants a bad opinion of us, putting a sword in their hands for our destruction.
21And they said to them: The Lord see and judge, because you have, made our savour to stink before Pharao and his servants, and you have given him a sword, to kill us.
21and say unto them, `Jehovah look upon you, and judge, because ye have caused our fragrance to stink in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants--to give a sword into their hand to slay us.'
22And Moses returned unto Jehovah, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou dealt ill with this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?
22And Moses went back to the Lord and said, Lord, why have you done evil to this people? why have you sent me?
22And Moses returned to the Lord, and said: Lord, why hast thou afflicted this people? wherefore hast thou sent me?
22And Moses turneth back unto Jehovah, and saith, `Lord, why hast Thou done evil to this people? why <FI>is<Fi> this? --Thou hast sent me!
23For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath dealt ill with this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.
23For from the time when I came to Pharaoh to put your words before him, he has done evil to this people, and you have given them no help.
23For since the time that I went in to Pharao to speak in thy name, he hath afflicted thy people: and thou hast not delivered them.
23and since I have come unto Pharaoh, to speak in Thy name, he hath done evil to this people, and Thou hast not at all delivered Thy people.'
