What Romans 6:8 means

Paul now states the positive side of union with Christ: if we died with Christ, we also believe we will live with him. This “living with him” is both a present sharing in his resurrection life and a future hope of unending fellowship. Faith embraces this promise, confident that the God who joined us to Christ’s death will not fail to join us to his life. The verse shifts the tone from legal release to relational participation. The Christian life is not merely the absence of sin’s rule; it is communion with the living Lord. That assurance strengthens the resolve to forsake sin, because a richer, truer life has been given in Christ.

Context

After asserting that death ends sin’s claim (verse 7), verse 8 advances the argument to the life believers now possess with Christ. Verses 9–10 will ground this in the certainty of Christ’s resurrection and its once-for-all character. Then verse 11 will call believers to align their thinking with these truths, which will flow into practical commands about refusing sin’s reign and offering our bodies to God (verses 12–13). The pattern remains: what is true in Christ shapes what must be true in us.

v.7for he that hath died is justified from sin.

v.8This passage

v.9knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death no more hath dominion over him.
