What Romans 4:24 means

The crediting of righteousness is for us also, if we believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. Faith now has a concrete focus: the God who vindicated Jesus by resurrection. Trusting Him unites us to the saving work accomplished through Jesus’ death and rising. The continuity with Abraham remains—belief in God’s promise and power—but the content is fuller. We look to the God who fulfilled His redemptive plan in raising Jesus. Such faith is not vague theism; it is specific reliance on the Father who raised the crucified Lord, the pledge that He justifies all who believe.

Context

Paul applies Abraham’s example directly to his readers. As Abraham believed God’s promise of life from death, believers now trust the God who has acted in raising Jesus. Verse 24 thus bridges the patriarchal narrative and the gospel. Verse 25 will summarize Jesus’ saving work—His being delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification—showing precisely how resurrection relates to our right standing with God.

v.23Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was reckoned unto him;

v.24This passage

v.25who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.
