What Mark 14:28 means

Jesus adds that after He is raised, He will go before them into Galilee. He couples the prophecy of failure with a promise of restoration. His resurrection is certain; His shepherding continues. “Go before you” evokes a shepherd leading scattered sheep back together and anticipates renewed fellowship in a familiar place. The disciples’ story will not end in desertion but in reunion and commissioning. This word should have steadied them in the coming hours, reminding them that Jesus’ death is not the final word. He plans to gather, forgive, and send them from Galilee.

Context

Immediately after predicting their scattering, Jesus promises post-resurrection gathering. This gracious assurance balances the warning and frames the coming failures within hope. Peter will still protest, but Jesus’ word stands. The narrative will proceed with Peter’s vehement claims of loyalty, Jesus’ precise prediction of his denials, and the others’ similar assertions. Then the scene moves to Gethsemane, where the disciples’ weakness will surface in sleep and flight, proving Jesus’ prophecy true while His promise of restoration waits beyond the cross.

v.27And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered abroad.

v.28This passage

v.29But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.
