What Luke 9:35 means
A voice from the cloud declares, “This is my Son, my chosen: hear ye him.” God publicly affirms Jesus’ identity and authority. The title “my Son” and “my chosen” authenticate Jesus’ unique relationship and mission. The command to “hear ye him” directs attention to Jesus as the final and authoritative speaker—greater than Moses or Elijah. This divine endorsement reinforces that Jesus’ words and mission are God’s revelation; disciples must listen and obey him rather than clinging to past traditions or human ideas about the Messiah.

Context
This verse concludes the transfiguration’s revelation sequence (vv.29–34). After the appearance of Moses and Elijah and the disciples’ reaction, God’s voice settles the matter: Jesus is Son and Chosen, and must be heard. This heavenly affirmation counterbalances earlier secrecy (v.21) and the subsequent command to silence (v.36). It strengthens the apostles for coming trials and clarifies that Jesus’ path—though involving suffering (v.31)—is ordained by God.
