What Luke 22:12 means

Jesus assures them of a “large upper room furnished,” a prepared space adequate for the group. The detail of it being furnished underscores providential readiness; nothing is left to scramble. The instruction “there make ready” calls the disciples to diligent service in sacred matters. The upper room, elevated and set apart, will be the setting for intimate teaching, humble service, and covenant institution. This verse displays the Lord’s care for both spiritual and practical needs. The promised provision teaches that when Jesus sends, He also supplies. The stage is thus set for the Passover to become the Lord’s Supper, where symbols long cherished will be filled with their ultimate meaning in Christ’s impending sacrifice.

Context

Jesus has given a sign to identify the house, the words to say, and now the assurance of a suitable room. The next verse confirms that everything occurs just as He said, and the disciples complete the preparations. With logistics concluded, the story moves to the meal proper: Jesus’ expressed desire to eat this Passover before He suffers, His vow not to partake again until the kingdom, the giving of the cup and bread with new significance, and the revelation of the betrayer at the table.

v.11And ye shall say unto the master of the house, The Teacher saith unto thee, Where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

v.12This passage

v.13And they went, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.
