What Luke 22:11 means

Jesus directs the disciples to address the master of the house with authority: “The Teacher saith unto thee, Where is the guest-chamber…?” He identifies Himself not by name but by title, signaling recognized respect. The request assumes prior hospitality or divine arrangement. The focus is on a specific purpose: to eat the Passover with His disciples. The scene highlights Jesus as the true host of the feast, even in another man’s house. The disciples obey in quiet faith, and human hospitality becomes the stage for divine revelation. The verse shows that Jesus orchestrates sacred moments through ordinary means—asking, answering, preparing—while setting apart a place where He will speak of His body and blood given for His people.

Context

After giving a sign to follow, Jesus instructs what message to deliver to the householder, invoking His authority as “The Teacher.” Immediately He promises that the householder will show a large furnished upper room, where the preparations should be made. The subsequent verse confirms the accuracy of Jesus’ words and the disciples’ successful preparations. With the room ready, the narrative turns to the Last Supper itself, where Jesus shares His heart, institutes the new covenant, and exposes the betrayer.

v.10And he said unto them, Behold, when ye are entered into the city, there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house whereinto he goeth.

v.11This passage

v.12And he will show you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
