What Luke 22:10 means

Jesus provides a striking sign: upon entering the city, they will meet a man carrying a water pitcher—an unusual sight, since women typically did this work. They are to follow him to the house he enters. This indicates Jesus’ foreknowledge and possibly prior arrangement, showing that nothing is unfolding by chance. The disciples must trust and act on His word, which will prove accurate. The instruction emphasizes quiet, purposeful preparation in a volatile time. The anonymity protects the location from premature discovery by Jesus’ enemies. God’s providence moves in ordinary details—a man, a pitcher, a house—to prepare a setting where the extraordinary grace of the new covenant will be revealed.

Context

Answering the disciples’ “Where?” Jesus gives a sign and a path to the Passover venue. Next He will tell them what to say to the householder and promise a furnished upper room. These directions lead directly to successful preparation in verse 13. The scene then transitions to the meal itself, where Jesus expresses longing to eat this Passover, announces His coming abstinence, and institutes the bread and cup, forecasting His suffering as the true fulfillment of Passover.

v.10This passage

v.11And ye shall say unto the master of the house, The Teacher saith unto thee, Where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?
