What Luke 19:42 means
Jesus lamented, "If thou hadst known in this day, even thou, the things which belong unto peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes." He expressed deep sorrow over Jerusalem's spiritual blindness, its failure to recognize Him as the source of true peace and salvation during His visitation. This ignorance, a wilful rejection, sealed their tragic fate, obscuring the path to true reconciliation with God.

Context
This verse records the specific words of Jesus's lament, immediately following his act of weeping over Jerusalem. His words directly address the city's tragic failure to recognize the offer of peace during his presence. This prophetic accusation sets the stage for the detailed prophecy of Jerusalem's destruction in the verses that follow, linking their ignorance to their impending doom.
