What John 16:27 means

Jesus grounds their confidence in the Father’s direct love. The Father Himself loves them because they have loved Jesus and believed that He came from the Father. Their affection for the Son and faith in His divine mission are evidence of a relationship already established. This is not earning love but entering into it by receiving the One the Father sent. The Father’s love, therefore, is personal and particular toward those united to Christ. This assurance solidifies prayer’s boldness: when they come in Jesus’ name, they are welcomed by a Father who already cherishes them. Faith in Jesus’ origin is the doorway into this intimate communion.

Context

This verse explains why Jesus says He does not need to plead with the Father for them: the Father already loves them. It connects love for Jesus and belief in His origin with the Father’s affection. The next verse summarizes Jesus’ entire mission—coming from the Father into the world and returning to the Father—tying together the themes of origin, mission, and departure that ground their confidence.
