1Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
1And therefore we also having so great a cloud of witnesses over our head, laying aside every weight and sin which surrounds us, let us run by patience to the fight proposed to us:
1Therefore, we also having so great a cloud of witnesses set around us, every weight having put off, and the closely besetting sin, through endurance may we run the contest that is set before us,
1For this reason, as we are circled by so great a cloud of witnesses, putting off every weight, and the sin into which we come so readily, let us keep on running in the way which is marked out for us,
2looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
2Looking on Jesus, the author and finisher of faith, who, having joy set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and now sitteth on the right hand of the throne of God.
2looking to the author and perfecter of faith--Jesus, who, over-against the joy set before him--did endure a cross, shame having despised, on the right hand also of the throne of God did sit down;
2Having our eyes fixed on Jesus, the guide and end of our faith, who went through the pains of the cross, not caring for the shame, because of the joy which was before him, and who has now taken his place at the right hand of God's seat of power.
3For consider him that hath endured such gainsaying of sinners against himself, that ye wax not weary, fainting in your souls.
3For think diligently upon him that endured such opposition from sinners against himself that you be not wearied, fainting in your minds.
3for consider again him who endured such gainsaying from the sinners to himself, that ye may not be wearied in your souls--being faint.
3Give thought to him who has undergone so much of the hate of sinners against himself, so that you may not be tired and feeble of purpose.
4Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin:

5and ye have forgotten the exhortation which reasoneth with you as with sons, My son, regard not lightly the chastening of the Lord, Nor faint when thou art reproved of him;
5And you have forgotten the consolation which speaketh to you, as unto children, saying: My son, neglect not the discipline of the Lord: neither be thou wearied whilst thou art rebuked by him.
5and ye have forgotten the exhortation that doth speak fully with you as with sons, `My son, be not despising chastening of the Lord, nor be faint, being reproved by Him,
5And you have not kept in mind the word which says to you as to sons, My son, do not make little of the Lord's punishment, and do not give up hope when you are judged by him;
6For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
6For whom the Lord loveth he chastiseth: and he scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
6for whom the Lord doth love He doth chasten, and He scourgeth every son whom He receiveth;'
6For the Lord sends punishment on his loved ones; everyone whom he takes as his son has experience of his rod.
7It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father chasteneth not?
7Persevere under discipline. God dealeth with you as with his sons. For what son is there whom the father doth not correct?
7if chastening ye endure, as to sons God beareth Himself to you, for who is a son whom a father doth not chasten?
7It is for your training that you undergo these things; God is acting to you as a father does to his sons; for what son does not have punishment from his father?
8But if ye are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
8But if you be without chastisement, whereof all are made partakers, then are you bastards and not sons.
8and if ye are apart from chastening, of which all have become partakers, then bastards are ye, and not sons.
8But if you have not that punishment of which we all have our part, then you are not true sons, but children of shame.
9Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
9Moreover, we have had fathers of our flesh for instructors, and we reverenced them. Shall we not much more obey the Father of spirits and live?
9Then, indeed, fathers of our flesh we have had, chastising <FI>us<Fi> , and we were reverencing <FI>them<Fi> ; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of the spirits, and live?
9And again, if the fathers of our flesh gave us punishment and had our respect, how much more will we be under the authority of the Father of spirits, and have life?
10For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed good to them; but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.
10And they indeed for a few days, according to their own pleasure, instructed us: but he, for our profit, that we might receive his sanctification.
10for they, indeed, for a few days, according to what seemed good to them, were chastening, but He for profit, to be partakers of His separation;
10For they truly gave us punishment for a short time, as it seemed good to them; but he does it for our profit, so that we may become holy as he is.
11All chastening seemeth for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yieldeth peaceable fruit unto them that have been exercised thereby, even the fruit of righteousness.
11Now all chastisement for the present indeed seemeth not to bring with it joy, but sorrow: but afterwards it will yield to them that are exercised by it the most peaceable fruit of justice.
11and all chastening for the present, indeed, doth not seem to be of joy, but of sorrow, yet afterward the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those exercised through it--it doth yield.
11At the time all punishment seems to be pain and not joy: but after, those who have been trained by it get from it the peace-giving fruit of righteousness.
12Wherefore lift up the hands that hang down, and the palsied knees;

14Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man shall see the Lord:

20for they could not endure that which was enjoined, If even a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned;

21and so fearful was the appearance, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:
21And so terrible was that which was seen, Moses said: I am frighted, and tremble.

21And the vision was so overpowering that even Moses said, I am shaking and full of fear.
22but ye are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable hosts of angels,

25See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not when they refused him that warned them on earth, much more shall not we escape who turn away from him that warneth from heaven:
25See that you refuse him not that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke upon earth, much more shall not we that turn away from him that speaketh to us from heaven.
25See, may ye not refuse him who is speaking, for if those did not escape who refused him who upon earth was divinely speaking--much less we who do turn away from him who <FI>speaketh<Fi> from heaven,
25See that you give ear to his voice which comes to you. For if those whose ears were shut to the voice which came to them on earth did not go free from punishment, what chance have we of going free if we give no attention to him whose voice comes from heaven?
26whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more will I make to tremble not the earth only, but also the heaven.
26Whose voice then moved the earth; but now he promiseth, saying: Yet once more: and I will move, not only the earth, but heaven also.
26whose voice the earth shook then, and now hath he promised, saying, `Yet once--I shake not only the earth, but also the heaven;'
26Whose voice was the cause of the shaking of the earth; but now he has made an oath, saying, There will be still one more shaking, not only of the earth, but of heaven.
27And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain.
27And in that he saith: Yet once more, he signifieth the translation of the moveable things as made, that those things may remain which are immoveable.
27and this--`Yet once' --doth make evident the removal of the things shaken, as of things having been made, that the things not shaken may remain;
27And the words, Still one more, make it clear that there will be a taking away of those things which are shaking, as of things which are made, so that there may be only those things of which no shaking is possible.
28Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace, whereby we may offer service well-pleasing to God with reverence and awe:
28Therefore, receiving an immoveable kingdom, we have grace: whereby let us serve, pleasing God, with fear and reverence.
28wherefore, a kingdom that cannot be shaken receiving, may we have grace, through which we may serve God well-pleasingly, with reverence and religious fear;
28If then, we have a kingdom which will never be moved, let us have grace, so that we may give God such worship as is pleasing to him with fear and respect:
