1And these are the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Jehovah yourGod commanded to teach you, that ye may do them in the land whereunto ye pass over to possess it,

1Now these are the orders and the laws and the decisions which the Lord your God gave me for your teaching, so that you might do them in the land of your heritage to which you are going:

1These are the precepts, and ceremonies, and judgments, which the Lord your God commanded that I should teach you, and that you should do them in the land into which you pass over to possess it:

2that thou mayest fear Jehovah thyGod, to keep all his statutes and his commandments which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

2So that living in the fear of the Lord your God, you may keep all his laws and his orders, which I give you: you and your son and your son's son, all the days of your life; and so that your life may be long.

2That thou mayst fear the Lord thy God, and keep all his commandments and precepts, which I command thee, and thy sons, and thy grandsons, all the days of thy life, that thy days may be prolonged.

3And thou shalt hear, Israel, and take heed to do [them]; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase greatly, as Jehovah theGod of thy fathers hath said unto thee, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

3So give ear, O Israel, and take care to do this; so that it may be well for you, and you may be greatly increased, as the Lord the God of your fathers has given you his word, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

3Hear, O Israel, and observe to do the things which the Lord hath commanded thee, that it may be well with thee, and thou mayst be greatly multiplied, as the Lord the God of thy fathers hath promised thee a land flowing with milk and honey.

4Hear, Israel: Jehovah ourGod is one Jehovah;

4Give ear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord:

4Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord.

5and thou shalt love Jehovah thyGod with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength.

5And the Lord your God is to be loved with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

5Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with thy whole heart, and with thy whole soul, and with thy whole strength.

6And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thy heart;

6Keep these words, which I say to you this day, deep in your hearts;

6And these words which I command thee this day, shall be in thy heart:

7and thou shalt impress them on thy sons, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou goest on the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

7Teaching them to your children with all care, talking of them when you are at rest in your house or walking by the way, when you go to sleep and when you get up.

7And thou shalt tell them to thy children, and thou shalt meditate upon them sitting in thy house, and walking on thy journey, sleeping and rising.

8And thou shalt bind them for a sign on thy hand, and they shall be for frontlets between thine eyes.

8Let them be fixed as a sign on your hand, and marked on your brow;

8And thou shalt bind them as a sign on thy hand, and they shall be and shall move between thy eyes.

9And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and upon thy gates.

9Have them lettered on the pillars of your houses and over the doors of your towns.

9And thou shalt write them in the entry, and on the doors of thy house.

10And it shall be, when Jehovah thyGod bringeth thee into the land which he swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee: great and good cities which thou buildedst not,

10And when the Lord your God has taken you into the land which he gave his oath to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, that he would give you; with great and fair towns which were not of your building;

10And when the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land, for which he swore to thy fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: and shall have given thee great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build,

11and houses full of everything good which thou filledst not, and wells digged which thou diggedst not, vineyards and oliveyards which thou plantedst not, and thou shalt have eaten and shalt be full;

11And houses full of good things not stored up by you, and places for storing water which you did not make, and vine-gardens and olive-trees not of your planting; and you have taken food and are full;

11Houses full of riches, which thou didst not set up, cisterns which thou didst not dig, vineyards and oliveyards, which thou didst not plant,

12[then] beware lest thou forget Jehovah who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

12Then take care that you keep your hearts true to the Lord, who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the prison-house.

12And thou shalt have eaten and be full:

13Thou shalt fear Jehovah thyGod, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name.

13Let the fear of the Lord your God be in your hearts, and be his servants, taking your oaths by his name.

13Take heed diligently lest thou forget the Lord, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God, and shalt serve him only, and thou shalt swear by his name.

14Ye shall not go after othergods, of thegods of the peoples that are round about you;

14Do not go after other gods, the gods of the peoples round about you;

14You shall not go after the strange gods of all the nations, that are round about you:

15for Jehovah thyGod is a jealousGod in thy midst; lest the anger of Jehovah thyGod be kindled against thee, and he destroy thee from the face of the earth.

15For the Lord your God who is with you is a God who will not let his honour be given to another; or the wrath of the Lord will be burning against you, causing your destruction from the face of the earth.

15Because the Lord thy God is a jealous God in the midst of thee: lest at any time the wrath of the Lord thy God be kindled against thee, and take thee away from the face of the earth.

16Ye shall not tempt Jehovah yourGod, as ye tempted him in Massah.

16Do not put the Lord your God to the test as you did in Massah.

16Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God, as thou temptedst him in the place of temptation.

17Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of Jehovah yourGod, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.

17Keep with care the orders of the Lord your God, and his rules and his laws which he has given you;

17Keep the precepts of the Lord thy God, and the testimonies and ceremonies which he hath commanded thee.

18And thou shalt do what is right and good in the sight of Jehovah, that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest enter in and possess the good land which Jehovah swore unto thy fathers,

18And do what is upright and good in the eyes of the Lord your God, so that it may be well for you and you may go in and take for your heritage that good land from which the Lord undertook by an oath to your fathers,

18And do that which is pleasing and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may be well with thee: and going in thou mayst possess the goodly land, concerning which the Lord swore to thy fathers,

19thrusting out all thine enemies from before thee, as Jehovah hath spoken.

19To send out from before you all those who are against you.

19That he would destroy all thy enemies before thee, as he hath spoken.

20When thy son shall ask thee in time to come, saying, What are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which Jehovah ourGod hath commanded you?

20And when your son says to you in time to come, What is the reason for these rules and laws and decisions which the Lord our God has given you?

20And when thy son shall ask thee to morrow, saying: What mean these testimonies, and ceremonies and judgments, which the Lord our God hath commanded us?

21then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and Jehovah brought us out of Egypt with a powerful hand;

21Then you will say to your son, We were servants under Pharaoh's yoke in Egypt; and the Lord took us out of Egypt with a strong hand:

21Thou shalt say to him: We were bondmen of Pharao in Egypt, and the Lord brought us out of Egypt with a strong hand.

22and Jehovah shewed signs and wonders, great and grievous, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes;

22And the Lord did great signs and wonders against Egypt, and against Pharaoh and all his house, before our eyes:

22And he wrought signs and wonders great and very grievous in Egypt against Pharao, and all his house, in our sight,

23and he brought us out thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he swore unto our fathers.

23And he took us out from that place, guiding us here to give us this land, as he said in his oath to our fathers.

23And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in and give us the land, concerning which he swore to our fathers.

24And Jehovah commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear Jehovah ourGod, for our good continually, that he might preserve us alive, as it is this day.

24And the Lord gave us orders to keep all these laws, in the fear of the Lord our God, so that it might be well for us for ever, and that he might keep us from death, as he has done to this day.

24And the Lord commanded that we should do all these ordinances, and should fear the Lord our God, that it might be well with us all the days of our life, as it is at this day.

25And it shall be our righteousness if we take heed to do all these commandments before Jehovah ourGod, as he hath commanded us.

25And it will be our righteousness if we take care to keep all this order before the Lord our God as he has given it to us.

25And he will be merciful to us, if we keep and do all his precepts before the Lord our God, as he hath commanded us.
