1And I, brethren, have not been able to speak to you as to spiritual, but as to fleshly; as to babes in Christ.

1And I, brethren, could not speak to you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal. As unto little ones in Christ.

1And the teaching I gave you, my brothers, was such as I was able to give, not to those who have the Spirit, but to those who are still in the flesh, even to children in Christ.

2I have given you milk to drink, not meat, for ye have not yet been able, nor indeed are ye yet able;

2I gave you milk to drink, not meat: for you were not able as yet. But neither indeed are you now able: for you are yet carnal.

2I gave you milk and not meat, because you were, then, unable to take it, and even now you are not able;

3for ye are yet carnal. For whereas [there are] among you emulation and strife, are ye not carnal, and walk according to man?

3For, whereas there is among you envying and contention, are you not carnal and walk you not according to man?

3Because you are still in the flesh: for when there is envy and division among you, are you not still walking after the way of the flesh, even as natural men?

4For when one says, I am of Paul, and another, I of Apollos, are ye not men?

4For while one saith: I indeed am of Paul: and another: I am of Apollo: are you not men? What then is Apollo and what is Paul?

4For when one says, I am of Paul; and another says, I am of Apollos; are you not talking like natural men?

5Who then is Apollos, and who Paul? Ministering servants, through whom ye have believed, and as the Lord has given to each.

5The ministers of him whom you have believed: and to every one as the Lord hath given.

5What then is Apollos? and what is Paul? They are but servants who gave you the good news as God gave it to them.

6I have planted; Apollos watered; butGod has given the increase.

6I have planted, Apollo watered: but God gave the increase.

6I did the planting, Apollos did the watering, but God gave the increase.

7So that neither the planter is anything, nor the waterer; butGod the giver of the increase.

7Therefore, neither he that planteth is any thing, nor he that watereth: but God that giveth the increase.

7So then the planter is nothing, and the waterer is nothing; but God who gives the increase.

8But the planter and the waterer are one; but each shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.

8Now he that planteth and he that watereth, are one. And every man shall receive his own reward, according to his own labour.

8Now the planter and the waterer are working for the same end: but they will have their separate rewards in the measure of their work.

9For we areGod's fellow-workmen; ye areGod's husbandry,God's building.

9For we are God's coadjutors. You are God's husbandry: you are God's building.

9For we are workers with God: you are God's planting, God's building.

10According to the grace ofGod which has been given to me, as a wise architect, I have laid the foundation, but another builds upon it. But let each see how he builds upon it.

10According to the grace of God that is given to me, as a wise architect, I have laid the foundation: and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.

10In the measure of the grace given to me, I, as a wise master-builder, have put the base in position, and another goes on building on it. But let every man take care what he puts on it.

11For other foundation can no man lay besides that which [is] laid, which is Jesus Christ.

11For other foundation no man can lay, but that which is laid: which is Christ Jesus.

11For there is no other base for the building but that which has been put down, which is Jesus Christ.

12Now if any one build upon [this] foundation, gold, silver, precious stones, wood, grass, straw,

12Now, if any man build upon this foundation, gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble:

12But on the base a man may put gold, silver, stones of great price, wood, dry grass, cut stems;

13the work of each shall be made manifest; for the day shall declare [it], because it is revealed in fire; and the fire shall try the work of each what it is.

13Every man's work shall be manifest. For the day of the Lord shall declare it, because it shall be revealed in fire. And the fire shall try every man's work, of what sort it is.

13Every man's work will be made clear in that day, because it will be tested by fire; and the fire itself will make clear the quality of every man's work.

14If the work of any one which he has built upon [the foundation] shall abide, he shall receive a reward.

14If any man's work abide, which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

14If any man's work comes through the test, he will have a reward.

15If the work of any one shall be consumed, he shall suffer loss, but he shall be saved, but so as through [the] fire.

15If any mans work burn, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved, yet so as by fire.

15If the fire puts an end to any man's work, it will be his loss: but he will get salvation himself, though as by fire.

16Do ye not know that ye are [the] temple ofGod, and [that] the Spirit ofGod dwells in you?

16Know you not that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

16Do you not see that you are God's holy house, and that the Spirit of God has his place in you?

17If any one corrupt the temple ofGod, him shallGod destroy; for the temple ofGod is holy, and such are ye.

17But if any man violate the temple of God, him shall God destroy. For the temple of God is holy, which you are.

17If anyone makes the house of God unclean, God will put an end to him; for the house of God is holy, and you are his house.

18Let no one deceive himself: if any one thinks himself to be wise among you in this world, let him become foolish, that he may be wise.

18Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seem to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

18Let no man have a false idea. If any man seems to himself to be wise among you, let him become foolish, so that he may be wise.

19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness withGod; for it is written, He who takes the wise in their craftiness.

19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written: I will catch the wise in their own craftiness.

19For the wisdom of this world is foolish before God. As it is said in the holy Writings, He who takes the wise in their secret designs:

20And again, [The] Lord knows the reasonings of the wise that they are vain.

20And again: The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain.

20And again, The Lord has knowledge of the reasonings of the wise, that they are nothing.

21So that let no one boast in men; for all things are yours.

21Let no man therefore glory in men.

21So let no one take pride in men. For all things are yours;

22Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or [the] world, or life, or death, or things present, or things coming, all are yours;

22For all things are yours, whether it be Paul or Apollo or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come. For all are yours.

22Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are yours;

23and ye [are] Christ's, and Christ [is]God's.

23And you are Christ's. And Christ is God's.

23And you are Christ's; and Christ is God's.
