Bible Verses for When You're Angry at God

Anger at God usually means you still believe he's there — you just don't understand what he's doing. The Bible is not afraid of that anger. Job yelled, Jeremiah accused, David demanded answers, and God kept showing up. You can be furious and faithful in the same breath.

Pray this

Say the thing you've been swallowing. Out loud. Then sit in the silence for a minute before you read.

"Therefore I will not keep silent. I will speak in the anguish of my spirit. I will complain in the bitterness of my soul."

"How long, Yahweh? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart every day?"

"Remember my affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the bitterness… It is because of Yahweh's loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn't fail. They are new every morning."

"Yahweh, how long will I cry, and you will not hear? I cry out to you 'Violence!' and will you not save?"

"The Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can't be uttered."

Frequently asked questions

  • Scripture distinguishes between honest lament and rebellion. Job, Jeremiah, David, and Habakkuk all said hard things to God and were not condemned. What God consistently rejects is the silence of pretending — not the noise of grief.
