What Romans 16:15 means

Paul greets Philologus and Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, along with all the saints with them. As with the prior verse, he likely addresses another house-church. The inclusion of men and women together, and a sibling pair, hints at the diverse, family-like makeup of these gatherings. By calling them saints, Paul reminds them of their consecrated status in Christ. These small communities bear holy identity amid a vast city. Their names are etched into the apostle’s love and prayers, a testimony that the Lord cherishes local fellowships engaged in everyday faithfulness.

Context

Paul continues to greet grouped believers, broadening the circle from individuals and households to clusters of saints. This prepares the way for verse 16, where he will exhort the entire Roman church to express a shared bond in a culturally recognizable, sanctified way. Immediately after this expression of unity, in verses 17–18, Paul will address threats to that unity by warning against divisive people and deceptive talk.

v.14Salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the brethren that are with them.

v.15This passage

v.16Salute one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ salute you.
