1My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?

1A psalm for David. The Lord ruleth me: and I shall want nothing.

1 My God, my God, why are you turned away from me? why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my crying?

2O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.

2He hath set me in a place of pasture. He hath brought me up, on the water of refreshment:

2O my God, I make my cry in the day, and you give no answer; and in the night, and have no rest.

3But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

3He hath converted my soul. He hath led me on the paths of justice, for his own name's sake.

3But you are holy, O you who are seated among the praises of Israel.

4Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.

4For though I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will fear no evils, for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff, they have comforted me.

4Our fathers had faith in you: they had faith and you were their saviour.

5They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.

5Thou hast prepared a table before me against them that afflict me. Thou hast anointed my head with oil; and my chalice which inebreateth me, how goodly is it!

5They sent up their cry to you and were made free: they put their faith in you and were not put to shame.

6But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

6And thy mercy will follow me all the days of my life. And that I may dwell in the house of the Lord unto length of days.

6But I am a worm and not a man; cursed by men, and looked down on by the people.

7All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,

9But it was you who took care of me from the day of my birth: you gave me faith even from my mother's breasts.

10I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother’s belly.

10(not in this translation)
