1When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
1I have loved, because the Lord will hear the voice of my prayer.
1When Israel came out of Egypt, the children of Jacob from a people whose language was strange to them;
2 Judah was his sanctuary, Israel his dominion.
2Because he hath inclined his ear unto me: and in my days I will call upon him.
2Judah became his holy place, and Israel his kingdom.

3The sorrows of death have compassed me: and the perils of hell have found me. I met with trouble and sorrow:
3The sea saw it, and went in flight; Jordan was turned back.
4 The mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs.
4And I called upon the name of the Lord. O Lord, deliver my soul.
4The mountains were jumping like goats, and the little hills like lambs.
5 What ailed thee, thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou turnedst back?
5The Lord is merciful and just, and our God sheweth mercy.
5What was wrong with you, O sea, that you went in flight? O Jordan, that you were turned back?
6 Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams? ye hills, like lambs?
6The Lord is the keeper of little ones: I was humbled, and he delivered me.
6You mountains, why were you jumping like goats, and you little hills like lambs?
7 Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of theGod of Jacob,
7Turn, O my soul, into thy rest: for the Lord hath been bountiful to thee.
7Be troubled, O earth, before the Lord, before the God of Jacob;
