What Mark 13:26 means

Jesus declared the glorious culmination of all these signs: "And then shall they see the Son of man coming in clouds with great power and glory." This powerful statement refers unequivocally to His Second Coming, a visible and undeniable event. The imagery of "coming in clouds" evokes Old Testament prophecies of divine appearance and judgment (Daniel 7:13-14), signifying His return as sovereign Lord and Judge. This will be a moment of universal revelation, where His majestic authority and divine nature are fully displayed.

Context

This verse presents the glorious climax to the entire Olivet Discourse, following the detailed descriptions of tribulation (vv. 5-23) and preceding cosmic disturbances (vv. 24-25). It is the central event to which all previous signs have pointed: the visible and powerful return of Jesus as the Son of Man. This ultimate display of glory then logically leads to His actions upon returning, specifically the gathering of His elect, as described in the next verse.

v.25and the stars shall be falling from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens shall be shaken.

v.26This passage

v.27And then shall he send forth the angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
