Context

This verse presents the glorious climax to the entire Olivet Discourse, following the detailed descriptions of tribulation (vv. 5-23) and preceding cosmic disturbances (vv. 24-25). It is the central event to which all previous signs have pointed: the visible and powerful return of Jesus as the Son of Man. This ultimate display of glory then logically leads to His actions upon returning, specifically the gathering of His elect, as described in the next verse.
