What Matthew 22:29 means

Jesus immediately exposes the root of the Sadducees' error, stating, 'Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.' This indictment reveals their twofold deficiency: a poor understanding of God's written Word and a limited view of God's limitless capability. They fail to grasp that the resurrected state transcends earthly limitations and that God's power is sufficient to bring about a changed existence. Their error stems from applying human logic to divine realities.

Context

This verse delivers Jesus' direct and authoritative indictment of the Sadducees' fundamental errors, immediately preceding His detailed explanation of the resurrection. By identifying their ignorance of 'the scriptures, nor the power of God,' Jesus critiques their theological foundation and sets the stage for His profound teaching on both the nature of resurrected life and the scriptural evidence for it.

v.28In the resurrection therefore whose wife shall she be of the seven? for they all had her.

v.29This passage

v.30For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as angels in heaven.
