What Luke 22:69 means

Jesus declares, “from henceforth shall the Son of man be seated at the right hand of the power of God.” He points beyond the present humiliation to imminent exaltation. The title “Son of man” ties His identity to the glorious figure who receives dominion; “right hand” signifies supreme authority and vindication. “From henceforth” indicates that His suffering and death are the pathway to enthronement, not the end. This claim confronts His judges: the One they condemn will soon be their Judge. The verse is a turning point—He shifts the frame from their courtroom to heaven’s throne room. In light of the New Testament, this clearly speaks of His resurrection and ascension to the Father’s right hand.

Context

After exposing the council’s unbelief, Jesus proclaims the destiny of the Son of man—seated at God’s right hand. This high claim prompts the leaders to press further: “Art thou then the Son of God?” Jesus’ reply, echoing their words, affirms the charge. The council then concludes that they need no further witnesses, having heard from His own mouth. This sets the stage for handing Him over to the Roman governor for execution.
