What John 12:45 means
Jesus continues: to behold Him is to behold the One who sent Him. He is the visible revelation of the invisible God. This does not erase distinction between Father and Son but affirms their perfect unity in mission and essence. The claim is as comforting as it is staggering: those who look on Jesus—His character, words, and works—truly see the Father’s heart. In Him, God has come near and made Himself known. This centers Christian knowledge of God on the person of Christ, not abstract speculation or distant ritual.

Context
Following the appeal that belief in Him is belief in the Sender, Jesus underscores that seeing Him is seeing the Father. He will next state His purpose as light coming into the world so that believers won’t remain in darkness. Then He will clarify that His mission at this time is salvation, not judgment, yet those who reject Him will be judged by His word on the last day. Finally, He will ground His teaching in the Father’s command that gives eternal life.
