What John 10:25 means

Jesus answers that He has already told them, and that His works, done in His Father’s name, testify to Him. Miracles are not mere wonders; they are signs pointing to identity and mission. Unbelief, then, is not due to insufficient evidence but to a heart closed to the Father's witness in the Son. Jesus places His ministry under the Father’s authority, showing their unity. To insist on a declaration while ignoring deeds is to miss truth standing in plain sight. The path to certainty is not in forcing statements but in honestly weighing the Father-authenticated works before them.

Context

After the leaders demand a plain statement (verse 24), Jesus points to the testimony of His words and works (verse 25). He will immediately explain their unbelief in verse 26: they are not of His sheep. Verses 27–29 then describe His sheep’s hearing, following, and security, grounding assurance in His and the Father’s grip. This will culminate in the climactic assertion of unity in verse 30, provoking a stoning attempt in verse 31.

v.24The Jews therefore came round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou hold us in suspense? If thou art the Christ, tell us plainly.

v.25This passage

v.26But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep.
