1Let us also therefore, having so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, laying aside every weight, and sin which so easily entangles us, run with endurance the race that lies before us,
1Therefore let us also, seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
1And therefore we also having so great a cloud of witnesses over our head, laying aside every weight and sin which surrounds us, let us run by patience to the fight proposed to us:
2looking stedfastly on Jesus the leader and completer of faith: who, in view of the joy lying before him, endured [the] cross, having despised [the] shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne ofGod.
2looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and hath sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
2Looking on Jesus, the author and finisher of faith, who, having joy set before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and now sitteth on the right hand of the throne of God.
3For consider well him who endured so great contradiction from sinners against himself, that ye be not weary, fainting in your minds.

4Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, wrestling against sin.

5And ye have quite forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: My son, despise not [the] chastening of [the] Lord, nor faint [when] reproved by him;
5and ye have forgotten the exhortation which reasoneth with you as with sons, My son, regard not lightly the chastening of the Lord, Nor faint when thou art reproved of him;
5And you have forgotten the consolation which speaketh to you, as unto children, saying: My son, neglect not the discipline of the Lord: neither be thou wearied whilst thou art rebuked by him.
6for whom [the] Lord loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives.
6For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

7Ye endure for chastening,God conducts himself towards you as towards sons; for who is the son that the father chastens not?
7It is for chastening that ye endure; God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is there whom his father chasteneth not?
7Persevere under discipline. God dealeth with you as with his sons. For what son is there whom the father doth not correct?
8But if ye are without chastening, of which all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.

9Moreover we have had the fathers of our flesh as chasteners, and we reverenced [them]; shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?
9Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
9Moreover, we have had fathers of our flesh for instructors, and we reverenced them. Shall we not much more obey the Father of spirits and live?
10For they indeed chastened for a few days, as seemed good to them; but he for profit, in order to the partaking of his holiness.

11But no chastening at the time seems to be [matter] of joy, but of grief; but afterwards yields [the] peaceful fruit of righteousness to those exercised by it.
11All chastening seemeth for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yieldeth peaceable fruit unto them that have been exercised thereby, even the fruit of righteousness.
11Now all chastisement for the present indeed seemeth not to bring with it joy, but sorrow: but afterwards it will yield to them that are exercised by it the most peaceable fruit of justice.
12Wherefore lift up the hands that hang down, and the failing knees;

13and make straight paths for your feet, that that which is lame be not turned aside; but that rather it may be healed.

14Pursue peace with all, and holiness, without which no one shall see the Lord:

15watching lest [there be] any one who lacks the grace ofGod; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble [you], and many be defiled by it;

19and trumpet's sound, and voice of words; which they that heard, excusing themselves, declined [the] word being addressed to them any more:
19and the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard entreated that no word more should be spoken unto them;

20(for they were not able to bear what was enjoined: And if a beast should touch the mountain, it shall be stoned;
20for they could not endure that which was enjoined, If even a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned;
20For they did not endure that which was said: and if so much as a beast shall touch the mount, it shall be stoned.
21and, so fearful was the sight, Moses said, I am exceedingly afraid and full of trembling;)

22but ye have come to mount Zion; and to [the] city of [the] livingGod, heavenly Jerusalem; and to myriads of angels,

23the universal gathering; and to [the] assembly of the firstborn [who are] registered in heaven; and toGod, judge of all; and to [the] spirits of just [men] made perfect;

24and to Jesus, mediator of a new covenant; and to [the] blood of sprinkling, speaking better than Abel.

25See that ye refuse not him that speaks. For if those did not escape who had refused him who uttered the oracles on earth, much more we who turn away from him [who does so] from heaven:
25See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not when they refused him that warned them on earth, much more shall not we escape who turn away from him that warneth from heaven:
25See that you refuse him not that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spoke upon earth, much more shall not we that turn away from him that speaketh to us from heaven.
26whose voice then shook the earth; but now he has promised, saying, Yet once will I shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.

26Whose voice then moved the earth; but now he promiseth, saying: Yet once more: and I will move, not only the earth, but heaven also.
27But this Yet once, signifies the removing of what is shaken, as being made, that what is not shaken may remain.
27And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain.
27And in that he saith: Yet once more, he signifieth the translation of the moveable things as made, that those things may remain which are immoveable.
28Wherefore let us, receiving a kingdom not to be shaken, have grace, by which let us serveGod acceptably with reverence and fear.
28Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace, whereby we may offer service well-pleasing to God with reverence and awe:
28Therefore, receiving an immoveable kingdom, we have grace: whereby let us serve, pleasing God, with fear and reverence.
