1And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh’s, the captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hand of the Ishmaelites, that had brought him down thither.

1Now Joseph was taken down to Egypt; and Potiphar the Egyptian, a captain of high position in Pharaoh's house, got him for a price from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there.

1And Joseph hath been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, a eunuch of Pharaoh, head of the executioners, an Egyptian man, buyeth him out of the hands of the Ishmaelites who have brought him thither.

1And Joseph was brought into Egypt, and Putiphar, an eunuch of Pharao, chief captain of the army, an Egyptian, bought him of the Ismaelites, by whom he was brought.

2And Jehovah was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

2And the Lord was with Joseph, and he did well; and he was living in the house of his master the Egyptian.

2And Jehovah is with Joseph, and he is a prosperous man, and he is in the house of his lord the Egyptian,

2And the Lord was with him, and he was a prosperous man in all things: and he dwelt in his master's house:

3And his master saw that Jehovah was with him, and that Jehovah made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

3And his master saw that the Lord was with him, making everything he did go well.

3and his lord seeth that Jehovah is with him, and all that he is doing Jehovah is causing to prosper in his hand,

3Who knew very well that the Lord was with him, and made all that he did to prosper in his hand.

4And Joseph found favor in his sight, and he ministered unto him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

4And having a high opinion of Joseph as his servant, he made him the overseer of his house and gave him control over all he had.

4and Joseph findeth grace in his eyes and serveth him, and he appointeth him over his house, and all that he hath he hath given into his hand.

4And Joseph found favour in the sight of his master, and ministered to him: and being set over all by him, he governed the house committed to him, and all things that were delivered to him:

5And it came to pass from the time that he made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that Jehovah blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of Jehovah was upon all that he had, in the house and in the field.

5And from the time when he made him overseer and gave him control of all his property, the blessing of the Lord was with the Egyptian, because of Joseph; the blessing of the Lord was on all he had, in the house and in the field.

5And it cometh to pass from the time that he hath appointed him over his house, and over all that he hath, that Jehovah blesseth the house of the Egyptian for Joseph's sake, and the blessing of Jehovah is on all that he hath, in the house, and in the field;

5And the Lord blessed the house of the Egyptian for Joseph's sake, and multiplied all his substance, both at home and in the fields.

6And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not aught that was with him, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was comely, and well-favored.

6And he gave Joseph control of all his property, keeping no account of anything, but only the food which was put before him. Now Joseph was very beautiful in form and face.

6and he leaveth all that he hath in the hand of Joseph, and he hath not known anything that he hath, except the bread which he is eating. And Joseph is of a fair form, and of a fair appearance.

6Neither knew he any other thing, but the bread which he ate. And Joseph was of a beautiful countenance, and comely to behold.

7And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.

7And after a time, his master's wife, looking on Joseph with desire, said to him, Be my lover.

7And it cometh to pass after these things, that his lord's wife lifteth up her eyes unto Joseph, and saith, `Lie with me;'

7And after many days, his mistress cast her eyes on Joseph, and said: Lie with me.

8But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master knoweth not what is with me in the house, and he hath put all that he hath into my hand:

8But he would not, and said to her, You see that my master keeps no account of what I do in his house, and has put all his property in my control;

8and he refuseth, and saith unto his lord's wife, `Lo, my lord hath not known what <FI>is<Fi> with me in the house, and all that he hath he hath given into my hand;

8But he in no wise consenting to that wicked act said to her: Behold, my master hath delivered all things to me, and knoweth not what he hath in his own house:

9he is not greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back anything from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

9So that no one has more authority in this house than I have; he has kept nothing back from me but you, because you are his wife; how then may I do this great wrong, sinning against God?

9none is greater in this house than I, and he hath not withheld from me anything, except thee, because thou <FI>art<Fi> his wife; and how shall I do this great evil? --then have I sinned against God.'

9Neither is there any thing which is not in my power, or that he hath not delivered to me, but thee, who art his wife; how then can I do this wicked thing, and sin against my God?

10And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.

10And day after day she went on requesting Joseph to come to her and be her lover, but he would not give ear to her.

10And it cometh to pass at her speaking unto Joseph day <FI>by<Fi> day, that he hath not hearkened unto her, to lie near her, to be with her;

10With such words as these day by day, both the woman was importunate with the young man, and he refused the adultery.

11And it came to pass about this time, that he went into the house to do his work; and there was none of the men of the house there within.

11Now one day he went into the house to do his work; and not one of the men of the house was inside.

11and it cometh to pass about this day, that he goeth into the house to do his work, and there is none of the men of the house there in the house,

11Now it happened on a certain day, that Joseph went into the house, and was doing some business, without any man with him:

12And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.

12And pulling at his coat, she said, Come to my bed; but slipping out of his coat, he went running away.

12and she catcheth him by his garment, saying, `Lie with me;' and he leaveth his garment in her hand, and fleeth, and goeth without.

12And she catching the skirt of his garment, said: Lie with me. But he leaving the garment in her hand, fled, and went out.

13And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,

13And when she saw that he had got away, letting her keep his coat,

13And it cometh to pass when she seeth that he hath left his garment in her hand, and fleeth without,

13And when the woman saw the garment in her hands, and herself disregarded,

14that she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in a Hebrew unto us to mock us: he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:

14She sent for the men of her house and said to them, See, he has let a Hebrew come here and make sport of us; he came to my bed, and I gave a loud cry;

14that she calleth for the men of her house, and speaketh to them, saying, `See, he hath brought in to us a man, a Hebrew, to play with us; he hath come in unto me, to lie with me, and I call with a loud voice,

14She called to her the men of her house, and said to them: See, he hath brought in a Hebrew, to abuse us: he came in to me, to lie with me; and when I cried out,

15and it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment by me, and fled, and got him out.

15And hearing it he went running out without his coat.

15and it cometh to pass, when he heareth that I have lifted up my voice and call, that he leaveth his garment near me, and fleeth, and goeth without.'

15And he heard my voice, he left the garment that I held, and got him out.

16And she laid up his garment by her, until his master came home.

16And she kept his coat by her, till his master came back.

16And she placeth his garment near her, until the coming in of his lord unto his house.

16For a proof therefore of her fidelity, she kept the garment, and shewed it to her husband when he returned home:

17And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, whom thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me:

17Then she gave him the same story, saying, The Hebrew servant whom you have taken into our house came in to make sport of me;

17And she speaketh unto him according to these words, saying, `The Hebrew servant whom thou hast brought unto us, hath come in unto me to play with me;

17And said: The Hebrew servant, whom thou hast brought, came to me to abuse me.

18and it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment by me, and fled out.

18And when I gave a loud cry he went running out without his coat.

18and it cometh to pass, when I lift my voice and call, that he leaveth his garment near me, and fleeth without.'

18And when he heard me cry, he left the garment which I held, and fled out.

19And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.

19And hearing his wife's account of what his servant had done, he became very angry.

19And it cometh to pass when his lord heareth the words of his wife, which she hath spoken unto him, saying, `According to these things hath thy servant done to me,' that his anger burneth;

19His master hearing these things, and giving too much credit to his wife's words, was very angry,

20And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were bound: and he was there in the prison.

20And Joseph's master took him and put him in prison, in the place where the king's prisoners were kept in chains, and he was there in the prison-house.

20and Joseph's lord taketh him, and putteth him unto the round-house, a place where the king's prisoners <FI>are<Fi> bound; and he is there in the round-house.

20And cast Joseph into the prison, where the king's prisoners were kept, and he was there shut up.

21But Jehovah was with Joseph, and showed kindness unto him, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

21But the Lord was with Joseph, and was good to him, and made the keeper of the prison his friend.

21And Jehovah is with Joseph, and stretcheth out kindness unto him, and putteth his grace in the eyes of the chief of the round-house;

21But the Lord was with Joseph, and having mercy upon him gave him favour in the sight of the chief keeper of the prison:

22And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of it.

22And the keeper of the prison put all the prisoners under Joseph's control, and he was responsible for whatever was done there.

22and the chief of the round-house giveth into the hand of Joseph all the prisoners who <FI>are<Fi> in the round-house, and of all that they are doing there, he hath been doer;

22Who delivered into his hand all the prisoners that were kept in custody: and whatsoever was done, was under him.

23The keeper of the prison looked not to anything that was under his hand, because Jehovah was with him; and that which he did, Jehovah made it to prosper.

23And the keeper of the prison gave no attention to anything which was under his care, because the Lord was with him; and the Lord made everything he did go well.

23the chief of the round-house seeth not anything under his hand, because Jehovah <FI>is<Fi> with him, and that which he is doing Jehovah is causing to prosper.

23Neither did he himself know any thing, having committed all things to him: for the Lord was with him, and made all that he did to prosper.
