1Now I say, As long as the heir is a child, he differs nothing from a bondman, though he be lord of all;

1But I say that as long as the son is a child, he is in no way different from a servant, though he is lord of all;

2but he is under guardians and stewards until the period fixed by the father.

14You despised not, nor rejected: but received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

14And you did not have a poor opinion of me because of the trouble in my flesh, or put shame on it; but you took me to your hearts as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

15What then [was] your blessedness? for I bear you witness that, if possible, plucking out your own eyes ye would have given [them] to me.

15Where is then your blessedness? For I bear you witness that, if it could be done, you would have plucked out your own eyes and would have given them to me.

15Where then is that happy condition of yours? because I give you witness, that, if possible, you would have taken out your eyes and given them to me.

16So I have become your enemy in speaking the truth to you?

17They are not rightly zealous after you, but desire to shut you out [from us], that ye may be zealous after them.

18But [it is] right to be zealous at all times in what is right, and not only when I am present with you —

19my children, of whom I again travail in birth until Christ shall have been formed in you:

22For it is written that Abraham had two sons; one of the maid servant, and one of the free woman.

23But he [that was] of the maid servant was born according to flesh, and he [that was] of the free woman through the promise.

23Now the son by the servant-woman has his birth after the flesh; but the son by the free woman has his birth through the undertaking of God.

24Which things have an allegorical sense; for these are two covenants: one from mount Sinai, gendering to bondage, which is Hagar.

24Which things are said by an allegory. For these are the two testaments. The one from Mount Sina, engendering unto bondage, which is Agar.

25For Hagar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and corresponds to Jerusalem which [is] now, for she is in bondage with her children;

28But ye, brethren, after the pattern of Isaac, are children of promise.

30What then do the Writings say? Send away the servant-woman and her son; for the son of the servant-woman will not have a part in the heritage with the son of the free woman.

31So then, brethren, we are not maid servant's children, but [children] of the free woman.

31So then, brethren, we are not the children of the bondwoman but of the free: by the freedom wherewith Christ has made us free.
