Ezekiel 27

1And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying:

1The word of the Lord came to me again, saying,

2And thou, son of man, take up a lamentation for Tyre,

2`And thou, son of man, lift up concerning Tyre a lamentation, and thou hast said to Tyre:

2And you, son of man, make a song of grief for Tyre;

3and say unto Tyre: O thou that art situate at the entries of the sea, and traffickest with the peoples in many isles, thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Thou, Tyre, hast said, I am perfect in beauty.

3O dweller on the entrances of the sea, Merchant of the peoples unto many isles, Thus said the Lord Jehovah: O Tyre, thou--thou hast said: I <FI>am<Fi> the perfection of beauty.

3And say to Tyre, O you who are seated at the doorway of the sea, trading for the peoples with the great sea-lands, these are the words of the Lord: You, O Tyre, have said, I am a ship completely beautiful.

4Thy borders are in the heart of the seas, thy builders have perfected thy beauty.

4In the heart of the seas <FI>are<Fi> thy borders, Thy builders have perfected thy beauty.

4Your builders have made your outlines in the heart of the seas, they have made you completely beautiful.

5They made all thy double boards of cypress-trees of Senir; they took cedars from Lebanon to make masts for thee.

5Of firs of Senir they have built to thee all thy double-boarded ships, Of cedars of Lebanon they have taken to make a mast for thee,

5They have made all your boards of fir-trees from Senir: they have taken cedars from Lebanon to make the supports for your sails.

6Of the oaks of Bashan did they make thine oars; they made thy benches of ivory, inlaid in box-wood, out of the isles of Chittim.

6Of oaks of Bashan they made thine oars, Thy bench they have made of ivory, A branch of Ashurim from isles of Chittim.

6Of oak-trees from Bashan they have made your driving blades; they have made your floors of ivory and boxwood from the sea-lands of Kittim.

7Byssus with broidered work from Egypt was thy sail, to serve thee for a banner; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was thine awning.

7Of fine linen with embroidery from Egypt hath been thy sail, To be to thee for an ensign, Of blue and purple from isles of Elishah hath been thy covering.

7The best linen with needlework from Egypt was your sail, stretched out to be a flag for you; blue and purple from the sea-lands of Elishah gave you shade.

8The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy rowers; thy wise men, O Tyre, who were in thee, were thy pilots.

8Inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad have been rowers to thee, Thy wise men, O Tyre, have been in thee, They <FI>are<Fi> thy pilots.

8The people of Zidon and Arvad were your boatmen; the wise men of Zemer were in you; they were guiding your ships;

9The elders of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee repairing thy leaks; all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee, to barter with thee.

9Elders of Gebal and its wise men have been in thee, Strengthening thy breach; All ships of the sea and their mariners, Have been in thee, to trade <FI>with<Fi> thy merchandise.

9The responsible men of Gebal and its wise men were in you, making your boards watertight: all the ships of the sea with their seamen were in you trading in your goods.

10Persia and Lud and Phut were in thine army, thy men of war: they hanged shield and helmet in thee; they gave splendour to thee.

10Persian and Lud and Phut Have been in thy forces--thy men of war. Shield and helmet they hung up in thee, They--they have given out thine honour.

10Cush and Lud and Put were in your army, your men of war, hanging up their body-covers and head-dresses of war in you: they gave you your glory.

11The children of Arvad with thine army were upon thy walls round about, and the Gammadim were on thy towers: they hanged their shields upon thy walls round about; they made thy beauty perfect.

11The sons of Arvad, and thy force, <FI>Are<Fi> on thy walls round about, And short swordsmen in thy towers have been, Their shields they have hung up on thy walls round about, They--they have perfected thy beauty.

11The men of Arvad in your army were on your walls, and were watchmen in your towers, hanging up their arms on your walls round about; they made you completely beautiful.

12Tarshish dealt with thee by reason of the abundance of all substance; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they furnished thy markets.

12Tarshish <FI>is<Fi> thy merchant, Because of the abundance of all wealth, For silver, iron, tin, and lead, They have given out thy remnants.

12Tarshish did business with you because of the great amount of your wealth; they gave silver, iron, tin, and lead for your goods.

13Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were thy traffickers: they bartered with thee the persons of men, and vessels of bronze.

13Javan, Tubal, and Meshech--they <FI>are<Fi> thy merchants, For persons of men, and vessels of brass, They have given out thy merchandise.

13Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were your traders; they gave living men and brass vessels for your goods.

14They of the house of Togarmah furnished thy markets with horses, and horsemen, and mules.

14They of the house of Togarmah, <FI>For<Fi> horses, and riding steeds, and mules, They have given out thy remnants.

14The people of Togarmah gave horses and war-horses and transport beasts for your goods.

15The children of Dedan were thy traffickers; many isles were the mart of thy hand: they rendered in payment horns of ivory, and ebony.

15Sons of Dedan <FI>are<Fi> thy merchants, Many isles <FI>are<Fi> the mart of thy hand, Horns of ivory and ebony they sent back thy reward.

15The men of Rodan were your traders: a great number of sea-lands did business with you: they gave you horns of ivory and ebony as an offering.

16Syria dealt with thee for the multitude of thy handiworks: they traded in thy markets with carbuncles, purple, and broidered work, and fine linen, and corals, and rubies.

16Aram <FI>is<Fi> thy merchant, Because of the abundance of thy works, For emerald, purple, and embroidery, And fine linen, and coral, and agate, They have given out thy remnants.

16Edom did business with you because of the great number of things which you made; they gave emeralds, purple, and needlework, and the best linen and coral and rubies for your goods.

17Judah and the land of Israel were thy traffickers: they bartered with thee wheat of Minnith, and sweet cakes, and honey, and oil, and balm.

17Judah and the land of Israel--they <FI>are<Fi> thy merchants, For wheat of Minnith, and Pannag, And honey, and oil, and balm, They have given out thy merchandise.

17Judah and the land of Israel were your traders; they gave grain of Minnith and sweet cakes and honey and oil and perfume for your goods.

18Damascus dealt with thee because of the multitude of thy handiworks, by reason of the abundance of all substance, with wine of Helbon, and white wool.

18Damascus <FI>is<Fi> thy merchant, For the abundance of thy works, Because of the abundance of all wealth, For wine of Helbon, and white wool.

18Damascus did business with you because of the great amount of your wealth, with wine of Helbon and white wool.

19Vedan and Javan of Uzal traded in thy markets: wrought iron, cassia, and calamus were in thy traffic.

19Vedan and Javan go about with thy remnants, They have given shining iron, cassia, and cane, In thy merchandise it hath been.

19... for your goods: they gave polished iron and spices for your goods.

20Dedan was thy trafficker in precious riding-cloths.

20Dedan <FI>is<Fi> thy merchant, For clothes of freedom for riding.

20Dedan did trade with you in cloths for the backs of horses.

21Arabia and all the princes of Kedar were the merchants of thy hand: in lambs, and rams, and goats, in these did they trade with thee.

21Arabia, and all princes of Kedar, They <FI>are<Fi> the traders of thy hand, For lambs, and rams, and he-goats, In these thy merchants.

21Arabia and all the rulers of Kedar did business with you; in lambs and sheep and goats, in these they did business with you.

22The merchants of Sheba and Raamah were thy traffickers: they furnished thy markets with all the choice spices, and with all precious stones and gold.

22Merchants of Sheba and Raamah--they <FI>are<Fi> thy merchants, For the chief of all spices, And for every precious stone, and gold, They have given out thy remnants.

22The traders of Sheba and Raamah did trade with you; they gave the best of all sorts of spices and all sorts of stones of great price and gold for your goods.

23Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad traded with thee:

23Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, merchants of Sheba, Asshur--Chilmad--<FI> are<Fi> thy merchants,

23Haran and Canneh and Eden, the traders of Asshur and all the Medes:

24these traded with thee in sumptuous clothes, in wrappings of blue and broidered work, and in chests full of variegated stuffs, bound with cords and made of cedar-wood, amongst thy merchandise.

24They <FI>are<Fi> thy merchants for perfect things, For wrappings of blue, and embroidery, And for treasuries of rich apparel, With cords bound and girded, for thy merchandise,

24These were your traders in beautiful robes, in rolls of blue and needlework, and in chests of coloured cloth, corded with cords and made of cedar-wood, in them they did trade with you.

25The ships of Tarshish were thy caravans for thy traffic; and thou wast replenished, and highly honoured, in the heart of the seas.

25Ships of Tarshish <FI>are<Fi> thy double walls of thy merchandise, And thou art filled and honoured greatly, In the heart of the seas.

25Tarshish ships did business for you in your goods: and you were made full, and great was your glory in the heart of the seas.

26Thy rowers have brought thee into great waters; the east wind hath broken thee in the heart of the seas.

26Into great waters have they brought thee, Those rowing thee, The east wind hath broken thee in the heart of the seas.

26Your boatmen have taken you into great waters: you have been broken by the east wind in the heart of the seas.

27Thy substance, and thy markets, thy merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, they that repair thy leaks, and they that barter with thee, and all thy men of war that are in thee, along with all thine assemblage which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the heart of the seas in the day of thy fall.

27Thy wealth and thy remnants, Thy merchandise, thy mariners, And thy pilots, strengtheners of thy breach, And the traders of thy merchandise, And all thy men of war, who <FI>are<Fi> in thee, And in all thine assembly that <FI>is<Fi> in thy midst, Fall into the heart of the seas in the day of thy fall,

27Your wealth and your goods, the things in which you do trade, your seamen and those guiding your ships, those who make your boards watertight, and those who do business with your goods, and all your men of war who are in you, with all who have come together in you, will go down into the heart of the seas in the day of your downfall.

28The open places shall shake at the sound of the cry of thy pilots.

28At the voice of the cry of thy pilots shake do the suburbs.

28At the sound of the cry of your ships' guides, the boards of the ship will be shaking.

29And all that handle the oar, the mariners, all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships; they shall stand upon the land,

29And come down from their ships have all handling an oar, Mariners, all the pilots of the sea, on the land they stand,

29And all the boatmen, the seamen and those who are expert at guiding a ship through the sea, will come down from their ships and take their places on the land;

30and shall cause their voice to be heard over thee, and shall cry bitterly; and they shall cast up dust upon their heads; they shall wallow themselves in ashes.

30And have sounded for thee with their voice, And cry bitterly, and cause dust to go up on their heads, In ashes they do roll themselves.

30And their voices will be sounding over you, and crying bitterly they will put dust on their heads, rolling themselves in the dust:

31And they shall make themselves utterly bald for thee, and gird themselves with sackcloth; and they shall weep for thee in bitterness of soul with bitter mourning.

31And they have made for thee baldness, And they have girded on sackcloth, And they have wept for thee, In bitterness of soul--a bitter mourning.

31And they will have the hair of their heads cut off because of you, and will put haircloth on their bodies, weeping for you with bitter grief in their souls, even with bitter sorrow.

32And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, [saying,] Who is like Tyre, like her that is destroyed in the midst of the sea?

32And lifted up for thee have their sons a lamentation, And they have lamented over thee, who <FI>is<Fi> as Tyre? As the cut-off one in the midst of the sea?

32And in their weeping they will make a song of grief for you, sorrowing over you and saying, Who is like Tyre, who has come to an end in the deep sea?

33When thy wares went forth over the seas, thou filledst many peoples; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the abundance of thy substance and of thy merchandise.

33With the outgoing of thy remnants from the seas, Thou hast filled many peoples, With the abundance of thy riches, and thy merchandise, Thou hast made rich things of earth.

33When your goods went out over the seas, you made numbers of peoples full; the wealth of the kings of the earth was increased with your great wealth and all your goods.

34In the time [when] thou art broken by the seas, in the depths of the waters, thy merchandise and all thine assemblage in the midst of thee have fallen.

34The time of <FI>thy<Fi> being broken by the seas in the depths of the waters, Thy merchandise and all thy assembly in thy midst have fallen.

34Now that you are broken by the seas in the deep waters, your goods and all your people will go down with you.

35All the inhabitants of the isles are amazed at thee, and their kings are horribly afraid, [their] countenance is troubled.

35All inhabitants of the isles have been astonished at thee, And their kings have been sore afraid, They have been troubled in countenance.

35All the people of the sea-lands are overcome with wonder at you, and their kings are full of fear, their faces are troubled.

36The merchants among the peoples hiss at thee; thou art become a terror, and thou shalt never be any more.

36Merchants among the peoples have shrieked for thee, Wastes thou hast been, and thou art not--to the age!'

36Those who do business among the peoples make sounds of surprise at you; you have become a thing of fear, you have come to an end for ever.
