1And the word of the Lord came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, the tenth day of the month, saying:

1And the word of the Lord came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, saying,

1And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth of the month, saying,

1Again in the ninth year, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

2Son of man, write thee the name of this day, on which the king of Babylon hath set himself against Jerusalem to day.

2Son of man, put down in writing this very day: The king of Babylon let loose the weight of his attack against Jerusalem on this very day.

2`Son of man, write for thee the name of the day--this self-same day leaned hath the king of Babylon toward Jerusalem in this self-same day--

2Son of man, write thee the name of the day, even of this same day: the king of Babylon set himself against Jerusalem this same day.

3And thou shalt speak by a figure a parable to the provoking house, and say to them: Thus saith the Lord God: Set on a pot, set it on, I say, and put water in it.

3And make a comparison for this uncontrolled people, and say to them, This is what the Lord has said: Put on the cooking-pot, put it on the fire and put water in it:

3and use unto the rebellious house a simile, and thou hast said unto them: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: To set on the pot, to set <FI>it<Fi> on, and also to pour into it water,

3And utter a parable unto the rebellious house, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Set on a pot, set it on, and also pour water into it:

4Heap together into it the pieces thereof, every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder, choice pieces and full of bones.

4And get the bits together, the fat tail, every good part, the leg and the top part of it: make it full of the best bones.

4To gather its pieces unto it, every good piece, Thigh and shoulder, the choice of the bones to fill in.

4Gather the pieces thereof into it, even every good piece, the thigh, and the shoulder; fill it with the choice bones.

5Take the fattest of the flock, and lay together piles of bones under it: the seething thereof is boiling hot, and the bones thereof are thoroughly sodden in the midst of it.

5Take the best of the flock, put much wood under it: see that its bits are boiling well; let the bones be cooked inside it.

5The choice of the flock to take, And also to pile of the bones under it, Boil it thoroughly, yea, cook its bones in its midst.

5Take the choice of the flock, and burn also the bones under it, and make it boil well, and let them seethe the bones of it therein.

6Therefore thus saith the Lord God: Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose rust is in it, and its rust is not gone out of it: cast it out piece by piece, there hath no lot fallen upon it.

6For this is what the Lord has said: A curse is on the town of blood, the cooking-pot which is unclean inside, which has never been made clean! take out its bits; its fate is still to come on it.

6Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: Woe <FI>to<Fi> the city of blood, A pot whose scum <FI>is<Fi> in it, And its scum hath not come out of it, By piece of it, by piece of it bring it out, Not fallen on it hath a lot.

6Wherefore thus saith the Lord God; Woe to the bloody city, to the pot whose scum is therein, and whose scum is not gone out of it! bring it out piece by piece; let no lot fall upon it.

7For her blood is in the midst of her, she hath shed it upon the smooth rock: she hath not shed it upon the ground, that it might be covered with dust.

7For her blood is in her; she has put it on the open rock not draining it on to the earth so that it might be covered with dust;

7For her blood in her midst hath been, On a clear place of a rock she hath set it, She hath not poured it on the earth, To cover it over with dust.

7For her blood is in the midst of her; she set it upon the top of a rock; she poured it not upon the ground, to cover it with dust;

8And that I might bring my indignation upon her, and take my vengeance: I have shed her blood upon the smooth rock, that it should not be covered.

8In order that it might make wrath come up to give punishment, she has put her blood on the open rock, so that it may not be covered.

8To cause fury to come up to take vengeance, I have put her blood on a clear place of a rock--not to be covered.

8That it might cause fury to come up to take vengeance; I have set her blood upon the top of a rock, that it should not be covered.

9Therefore thus saith the Lord God: Woe to the bloody city, of which I will make a great bonfire.

9For this cause the Lord has said: A curse is on the town of blood! and I will make great the burning mass.

9Therefore, thus said the Lord Jehovah: Woe <FI>to<Fi> the city of blood, yea, I--I make great the pile.

9Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Woe to the bloody city! I will even make the pile for fire great.

10Heap together the bones, which I will burn with fire: the flesh shall be consumed, and the whole composition shall be sodden, and the bones shall be consumed.

10Put on much wood, heating up the fire, boiling the flesh well, and making the soup thick, and let the bones be burned.

10Make abundant the wood, Kindle the fire, consume the flesh, And make the compound, And let the bones be burnt.

10Heap on wood, kindle the fire, consume the flesh, and spice it well, and let the bones be burned.

11Then set it empty upon burning coals, that it may be hot, and the brass thereof may be melted: and let the filth of it be melted in the midst thereof, and let the rust of it be consumed.

11And I will put her on the coals so that she may be heated and her brass burned, so that what is unclean in her may become soft and her waste be completely taken away.

11And cause it to stand on its coals empty, So that its brass is hot and burning, Melted hath been in its midst its uncleanness, Consumed is its scum.

11Then set it empty upon the coals thereof, that the brass of it may be hot, and may burn, and that the filthiness of it may be molten in it, that the scum of it may be consumed.

12Great pains have been taken, and the great rust thereof is not gone out, not even by fire.

12I have made myself tired to no purpose: still all the waste which is in her has not come out, it has an evil smell.

12<FI> With<Fi> sorrows she hath wearied herself, And the abundance of her scum goeth not out of her, In the fire <FI>is<Fi> her scum.

12She hath wearied herself with lies, and her great scum went not forth out of her: her scum shall be in the fire.

13Thy uncleanness is execrable: because I desired to cleanse thee, and thou art not cleansed from thy filthiness: neither shalt thou be cleansed, before I cause my indignation to rest in thee.

13As for your unclean purpose: because I have been attempting to make you clean, but you have not been made clean from it, you will not be made clean till I have let loose my passion on you in full measure.

13In thine uncleanness <FI>is<Fi> wickedness, Because I have cleansed thee, And thou hast not been cleansed, From thine uncleanness thou art not cleansed again, Till I have caused My fury to rest on thee.

13In thy filthiness is lewdness: because I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my fury to rest upon thee.

14I the Lord have spoken: it shall come to pass, and I will do it: I will not pass by, nor spare, nor be pacified: I will judge thee according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, saith the Lord.

14I the Lord have said the word and I will do it; I will not go back or have mercy, and my purpose will not be changed; in the measure of your ways and of your evil doings you will be judged, says the Lord.

14I, Jehovah, hath spoken, It hath come, and I have done <FI>it<Fi> , I do not free, nor do I spare, nor do I repent, According to thy ways, and according to thine acts, they have judged thee, An affirmation of the Lord Jehovah.'

14I the Lord have spoken it: it shall come to pass, and I will do it; I will not go back, neither will I spare, neither will I repent; according to thy ways, and according to thy doings, shall they judge thee, saith the Lord God.

15And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

15And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

15And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,

15Also the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

16Son of man, behold I take from thee the desire of thy eyes with a stroke, and thou shall not lament, nor weep; neither shall thy tears run down.

16Son of man, see, I am taking away the desire of your eyes by disease: but let there be no sorrow or weeping or drops running from your eyes.

16`Son of man, lo, I am taking from thee the desire of thine eyes by a stroke, and thou dost not mourn, nor weep, nor let thy tear come.

16Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet neither shalt thou mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.

17Sigh in silence, make no mourning for the dead: let the tire of thy head be upon thee, and thy shoes on thy feet, and cover not thy face, nor eat the meat of mourners.

17Let there be no sound of sorrow; make no weeping for your dead, put on your head-dress and your shoes on your feet, let not your lips be covered, and do not take the food of those in grief.

17Cease to groan, <FI>for<Fi> the dead thou dost make no mourning, thy bonnet bind on thee, and thy shoes thou dost put on thy feet, and thou dost not cover over the upper lip, and bread of men thou dost not eat.'

17Forbear to cry, make no mourning for the dead, bind the tire of thine head upon thee, and put on thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.

18So I spoke to the people in the morning, and my wife died in the evening: and I did in the morning as he had commanded me.

18So in the morning I was teaching the people and in the evening death took my wife; and in the morning I did what I had been ordered to do.

18And I speak unto the people in the morning, and my wife dieth in the evening, and I do in the morning as I have been commanded.

18So I spake unto the people in the morning: and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

19And the people said to me: Why dost thou not tell us what these things mean that thou doest?

19And the people said to me, Will you not make clear to us the sense of these things; is it for us you do them?

19And the people say unto me, `Dost thou not declare to us what these <FI>are<Fi> to us, that thou art doing?'

19And the people said unto me, Wilt thou not tell us what these things are to us, that thou doest so?

20And I said to them: The word of the Lord came to me, saying:

20Then I said to them, The word of the Lord came to me, saying,

20And I say unto them, `A word of Jehovah hath been unto me, saying:

20Then I answered them, The word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

21Speak to the house of Israel: Thus saith the Lord God: Behold I will profane my sanctuary, the glory of your realm, and the thing that your eyes desire, and for which your soul feareth: your sons, and your daughters, whom you have left, shall fall by the sword.

21Say to the people of Israel, The Lord has said, See, I will make my holy place unclean, the pride of your strength, the pleasure of your eyes, and the desire of your soul; and your sons and daughters, who did not come with you here, will be put to the sword.

21Say to the house of Israel: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Lo, I am polluting My sanctuary, The excellency of your strength, The desire of your eyes, and the pitied of your soul, And your sons and your daughters whom ye have left, by sword they do fall.

21Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the excellency of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left shall fall by the sword.

22And you shall do as I have done: you shall not cover your faces, nor shall you eat the meat of mourners.

22And you will do as I have done, not covering your lips or taking the food of those in grief.

22And ye have done as I have done, On the upper lip ye are not covered, And bread of men ye do not eat.

22And ye shall do as I have done: ye shall not cover your lips, nor eat the bread of men.

23You shall have crowns on your heads, and shoes on your feet: you shall not lament nor weep, but you shall pine away for your iniquities, and every one shall sigh with his brother.

23And your head-dresses will be on your heads and your shoes on your feet: there will be no sorrow or weeping; but you will be wasting away in the punishment of your evil-doing, and you will be looking at one another in wonder.

23And your bonnets <FI>are<Fi> on your heads, And your shoes <FI>are<Fi> on your feet, Ye do not mourn nor do ye weep, And ye have wasted away for your iniquities, And ye have howled one unto another.

23And your tires shall be upon your heads, and your shoes upon your feet: ye shall not mourn nor weep; but ye shall pine away for your iniquities, and mourn one toward another.

24And Ezekiel shall be unto you for a sign of things to come: according to all that he hath done, so shall you do, when this shall come to pass: and you shall know that I am the Lord God.

24And Ezekiel will be a sign to you; everything he has done you will do: when this takes place, you will be certain that I am the Lord.

24And Ezekiel hath been to you for a type, According to all that he hath done ye do; In its coming in--ye have known that I <FI>am<Fi> the Lord Jehovah.

24Thus Ezekiel is unto you a sign: according to all that he hath done shall ye do: and when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord God.

25And thou, O son of man, behold in the day wherein I will take away from them their strength, and the joy of their glory, and the desire of their eyes, upon which their souls rest, their sons and their daughters.

25And as for you, son of man, your mouth will be shut in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that on which their hearts are fixed, and their sons and daughters.

25And thou, son of man, Is it not in the day of My taking from them their strength, The joy of their beauty, the desire of their eyes, And the song of their soul, Their sons and their daughters?

25Also, thou son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their minds, their sons and their daughters,

26In that day when he that escapeth shall come to thee, to tell thee:

26In that day, one who has got away safe will come to you to give you news of it.

26In that day come doth the escaped one to thee. To cause the ears to hear.

26That he that escapeth in that day shall come unto thee, to cause thee to hear it with thine ears?

27In that day, I say, shall thy mouth be opened to him that hath escaped, and thou shalt speak, and shalt be silent no more: and thou shalt be unto them for a sign of things to come, and you shall know that I am the Lord.

27In that day your mouth will be open to him who has got away safe, and you will say words to him and your lips will no longer be shut: so you will be a sign to them and they will be certain that I am the Lord.

27In that day opened is thy mouth with the escaped, And thou speakest, and art not silent any more, And thou hast been to them for a type. And they have known that I <FI>am<Fi> Jehovah.'

27In that day shall thy mouth be opened to him which is escaped, and thou shalt speak, and be no more dumb: and thou shalt be a sign unto them; and they shall know that I am the Lord.
