What Exodus 3:15 means

God further elaborated on His name and memorial for the Israelites, linking His self-existent name, "Jehovah" (Yahweh), with His covenant relationship to their ancestors. He instructed Moses to tell them that "Jehovah, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob," had sent him. This emphasized that the eternal "I AM" was also the covenant-keeping God who remembered His promises across generations. This name was to be His enduring identifier and a memorial forever.
