Colossians 2

1For I would have you know what combat I have for you, and those in Laodicea, and as many as have not seen my face in flesh;

1For it is my desire to give you news of the great fight I am making for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not seen my face in the flesh;

1For I would have you know what manner of care I have for you and for them that are at Laodicea and whosoever have not seen my face in the flesh:

1For I wish you to know how great a conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and as many as have not seen my face in the flesh,

2to the end that their hearts may be encouraged, being united together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to [the] full knowledge of the mystery ofGod;

2So that their hearts may be comforted, and that being joined together in love, they may come to the full wealth of the certain knowledge of the secret of God, even Christ,

2That their hearts may be comforted, being instructed in charity and unto all riches of fulness of understanding, unto the knowledge of the mystery of God the Father and of Christ Jesus:

3in which are hid all the treasures of wisdom and of knowledge.

5For if indeed in the flesh I am absent, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing and seeing your order, and the firmness of your faith in Christ.

5For though I am not present in the flesh, still I am with you in the spirit, seeing with joy your order, and your unchanging faith in Christ.

5For though I be absent in body, yet in spirit I am with you, rejoicing, and beholding your order and the steadfastness of your faith which is in Christ.

5for if even in the flesh I am absent--yet in the spirit I am with you, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in regard to Christ;

6As therefore ye have received the Christ, Jesus the Lord, walk in him,

7rooted and built up in him, and assured in the faith, even as ye have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.

8See that there be no one who shall lead you away as a prey through philosophy and vain deceit, according to the teaching of men, according to the elements of the world, and not according to Christ.

8Take care that no one takes you away by force, through man's wisdom and deceit, going after the beliefs of men and the theories of the world, and not after Christ:

8Beware lest any man cheat you by philosophy and vain deceit: according to the tradition of men according to the elements of the world and not according to Christ.

8See that no one shall be carrying you away as spoil through the philosophy and vain deceit, according to the deliverance of men, according to the rudiments of the world, and not according to Christ,

9For in him dwells all the fulness of theGodhead bodily;

9For in him all the wealth of God's being has a living form,

9For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead corporeally.

9because in him doth tabernacle all the fulness of the Godhead bodily,

10and ye are complete in him, who is the head of all principality and authority,

10And you are complete in him, who is the head of all rule and authority:

10And you are filled in him, who is the head of all principality and power.

11in whom also ye have been circumcised with circumcision not done by hand, in the putting off of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of the Christ;

11In whom also you are circumcised with circumcision not made by hand in despoiling of the body of the flesh: but in the circumcision of Christ.

12buried with him in baptism, in which ye have been also raised with [him] through faith of the working ofGod who raised him from among the dead.

12Having been put to death with him in baptism, by which you came to life again with him, through faith in the working of God, who made him come back from the dead.

14having effaced the handwriting in ordinances which [stood out] against us, which was contrary to us, he has taken it also out of the way, having nailed it to the cross;

15having spoiled principalities and authorities, he made a show of them publicly, leading them in triumph by it.

15Having made himself free from the rule of authorities and powers, he put them openly to shame, glorying over them in it.

16Let none therefore judge you in meat or in drink, or in matter of feast, or new moon, or sabbaths,

17which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ.

18Let no one fraudulently deprive you of your prize, doing his own will in humility and worship of angels, entering into things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by the mind of his flesh,

18Let no man take your reward from you by consciously making little of himself and giving worship to angels; having his thoughts fixed on the things which he has seen, being foolishly lifted up in his natural mind,

18Let no man seduce you, willing in humility and religion of angels, walking in the things which he hath not seen, in vain puffed up by the sense of his flesh:

18let no one beguile you of your prize, delighting in humble-mindedness and <FI>in<Fi> worship of the messengers, intruding into the things he hath not seen, being vainly puffed up by the mind of his flesh,

19and not holding fast the head, from whom all the body, ministered to and united together by the joints and bands, increases with the increase ofGod.

19And not joined to the Head, from whom all the body, being given strength and kept together through its joins and bands, has its growth with the increase of God.

20If ye have died with Christ from the elements of the world, why as [if] alive in [the] world do ye subject yourselves to ordinances?

20If you were made free, by your death with Christ, from the rules of the world, why do you put yourselves under the authority of orders

20If then you be dead with Christ from the elements of this world, why do you yet decree as though living in the world?

20If, then, ye did die with the Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances?

21Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch,

21Which say there may be no touching, tasting, or taking in your hands,

21Touch not: taste not: handle not.

21--thou mayest not touch, nor taste, nor handle--

22(things which are all for destruction in the using [of them]:) according to the injunctions and teachings of men,

22(Rules which are all to come to an end with their use) after the orders and teaching of men?

22Which all are unto destruction by the very use, according to the precepts and doctrines of men.

22which are all for destruction with the using, after the commands and teachings of men,

23(which have indeed an appearance of wisdom in voluntary worship, and humility, and harsh treatment of the body, not in a certain honour,) to [the] satisfaction of the flesh.

23These things seem to have a sort of wisdom in self-ordered worship and making little of oneself, and being cruel to the body, not honouring it by giving it its natural use.

23Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in superstition and humility, and not sparing the body; not in any honour to the filling of the flesh.

23which are, indeed, having a matter of wisdom in will-worship, and humble-mindedness, and neglecting of body--not in any honour, unto a satisfying of the flesh.
