1And we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and of our gathering together unto him:

1Now we beg you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him,

1Now as to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, and our meeting with him, it is our desire, my brothers,

2That you be not easily moved from your sense nor be terrified, neither by spirit nor by word nor by epistle. as sent from us, as if the day of the Lord were at hand.

2that ye be not soon shaken in mind, nor troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter, as [if it were] by us, as that the day of the Lord is present.

2That you may not be moved in mind or troubled by a spirit, or by a word, or by a letter as from us, with the suggestion that the day of the Lord is even now come;

3Let no man deceive you by any means: for unless there come a revolt first, and the man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition

3Let not any one deceive you in any manner, because [it will not be] unless the apostasy have first come, and the man of sin have been revealed, the son of perdition;

3Give no belief to false words: because there will first be a falling away from the faith, and the revelation of the man of sin, the son of destruction,

4Who opposeth and is lifted up above all that is called God or that is worshipped, so that he sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself as if he were God.

4who opposes and exalts himself on high against all calledGod, or object of veneration; so that he himself sits down in the temple ofGod, shewing himself that he isGod.

4Who puts himself against all authority, lifting himself up over all which is named God or is given worship; so that he takes his seat in the Temple of God, putting himself forward as God.

5Remember you not that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

5Do ye not remember that, being yet with you, I said these things to you?

5Have you no memory of what I said when I was with you, giving you word of these things?

6And now you know what withholdeth, that he may be revealed in his time.

6And now ye know that which restrains, that he should be revealed in his own time.

6And now it is clear to you what is keeping back his revelation till the time comes for him to be seen.

7For the mystery of iniquity already worketh: only that he who now holdeth do hold, until he be taken out of the way.

7For the mystery of lawlessness already works; only [there is] he who restrains now until he be gone,

7For the secret of evil is even now at work: but there is one who is keeping back the evil till he is taken out of the way.

8And then that wicked one shall be revealed: whom the Lord Jesus shall kill with the spirit of his mouth and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: him

8and then the lawless one shall be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus shall consume with the breath of his mouth, and shall annul by the appearing of his coming;

8And then will come the revelation of that evil one, whom the Lord Jesus will put to death with the breath of his mouth, and give to destruction by the revelation of his coming;

9Whose coming is according to the working of Satan, in all power and signs and lying wonders:

9whose coming is according to the working of Satan in all power and signs and wonders of falsehood,

9Even the one whose coming is marked by the working of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders,

10And in all seduction of iniquity to them that perish: because they receive not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. Therefore God shall send them the operation of error, to believe lying:

10and in all deceit of unrighteousness to them that perish, because they have not received the love of the truth that they might be saved.

10And with every deceit of wrongdoing among those whose fate is destruction; because they were quite without that love of the true faith by which they might have salvation.

11That all may be judged who have not believed the truth but have consented to iniquity.

11And for this reasonGod sends to them a working of error, that they should believe what is false,

11And for this cause, God will give them up to the power of deceit and they will put their faith in what is false:

12But we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren, beloved of God, for that God hath chosen you firstfruits unto salvation, in sanctification of the spirit and faith of the truth:

12that all might be judged who have not believed the truth, but have found pleasure in unrighteousness.

12So that they all may be judged, who had no faith in what is true, but took pleasure in evil.

13Whereunto also he hath called you by our gospel, unto the purchasing of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

13But we ought to give thanks toGod always for you, brethren beloved of [the] Lord, thatGod has chosen you from [the] beginning to salvation in sanctification of [the] Spirit and belief of [the] truth:

13But it is right for us to give praise to God at all times for you, brothers, loved by the Lord, because it was the purpose of God from the first that you might have salvation, being made holy by the Spirit and by faith in what is true:

14Therefore, brethren, stand fast: and hold the traditions, which you have learned, whether by word or by our epistle.

14whereto he has called you by our glad tidings, to [the] obtaining of [the] glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

14And in this purpose he gave you a part through the good news of which we were the preachers, even that you might have part in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God and our Father, who hath loved us and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope in grace,

15So then, brethren, stand firm, and hold fast the instructions which ye have been taught, whether by word or by our letter.

15So then, brothers, be strong in purpose, and keep the teaching which has been given to you by word or by letter from us.

16Exhort your hearts and confirm you in every good work and word.

16But our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and ourGod and Father, who has loved us, and given [us] eternal consolation and good hope by grace,

16Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father who had love for us and has given us eternal comfort and good hope through grace,

17

17encourage your hearts, and establish you in every good work and word.

17Give you comfort and strength in every good work and word.
