What 2 Thessalonians 2:14 means

God “called you through our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Election becomes experience through the proclaimed gospel; the apostles’ message is the means by which God summons sinners to salvation. The destination is breathtaking: to obtain, or share in, the glory of “our Lord Jesus Christ.” Believers are being brought into Christ’s own honor and life. This hope dignifies present suffering and motivates perseverance. It also binds doctrine to proclamation: the same gospel that saved them anchors them now. Their future glory is secure because it rests in Christ’s glory, not their merit.

Context

This verse completes the salvation chain begun in v13—chosen, sanctified, believing, called through the gospel, headed for glory. With this foundation secure, Paul is ready to exhort the church in v15 to “stand fast” and retain the apostolic traditions delivered by word and letter. The comfort of assured destiny becomes the ground for steadfast duty. Then a closing prayer (vv16–17) will ask God to supply the strength required.

v.13But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, for that God chose you from the beginning unto salvation in sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

v.15So then, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye were taught, whether by word, or by epistle of ours.
