1But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that aught be written unto you.

1But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

1But about the times and their order, my brothers, there is no need for me to say anything to you.

1But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that ye should be written to,

2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

2For you yourselves have the knowledge that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.

2for ye know perfectly well yourselves, that the day of [the] Lord so comes as a thief by night.

3When they are saying, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall in no wise escape.

3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

3When they say, There is peace and no danger, then sudden destruction will come on them, as birth-pains on a woman with child; and they will not be able to get away from it.

3When they may say, Peace and safety, then sudden destruction comes upon them, as travail upon her that is with child; and they shall in no wise escape.

4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief:

4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

4But you, my brothers, are not in the dark, for that day to overtake you like a thief:

4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day should overtake you as a thief:

5for ye are all sons of light, and sons of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness;

5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

5For you are all sons of light and of the day: we are not of the night or of the dark.

5for all ye are sons of light and sons of day; we are not of night nor of darkness.

6so then let us not sleep, as do the rest, but let us watch and be sober.

6Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

6So then, let us not take our rest as the others do, but let us be self-controlled and awake.

6So then do not let us sleep as the rest do, but let us watch and be sober;

7For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that are drunken are drunken in the night.

7For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

7For those who are sleeping do so in the night; and those who are the worse for drink are so in the night;

7for they that sleep sleep by night, and they that drink drink by night;

8But let us, since we are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.

8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

8But let us, who are of the day, be serious, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and on our heads, the hope of salvation.

8but we being of [the] day, let us be sober, putting on [the] breastplate of faith and love, and as helmet [the] hope of salvation;

9For God appointed us not unto wrath, but unto the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

9For God's purpose for us is not wrath, but salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

9becauseGod has not set us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

10who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

10Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

10Who was put to death for us, so that, awake or sleeping, we may have a part in his life.

10who has died for us, that whether we may be watching or sleep, we may live together with him.

11Wherefore exhort one another, and build each other up, even as also ye do.

11Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

11So then, go on comforting and building up one another, as you have been doing.

11Wherefore encourage one another, and build up each one the other, even as also ye do.

12But we beseech you, brethren, to know them that labor among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

12And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

12But we make this request to you, my brothers: give attention to those who are working among you, who are over you in the Lord to keep order among you;

12But we beg you, brethren, to know those who labour among you, and take the lead among you in [the] Lord, and admonish you,

13and to esteem them exceeding highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.

13And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

13And have a high opinion of them in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves.

13and to regard them exceedingly in love on account of their work. Be in peace among yourselves.

14And we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, encourage the fainthearted, support the weak, be longsuffering toward all.

14Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

14And our desire is that you will keep control over those whose lives are not well ordered, giving comfort to the feeble-hearted, supporting those with little strength, and putting up with much from all.

14But we exhort you, brethren, admonish the disorderly, comfort the faint-hearted, sustain the weak, be patient towards all.

15See that none render unto any one evil for evil; but always follow after that which is good, one toward another, and toward all.

15See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

15Let no one give evil for evil; but ever go after what is good, for one another and for all.

15See that no one render to any evil for evil, but pursue always what is good towards one another and towards all;

16Rejoice always;

16Rejoice evermore.

16Have joy at all times.

16rejoice always;

17pray without ceasing;

17Pray without ceasing.

17Keep on with your prayers.

17pray unceasingly;

18in everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus to you-ward.

18In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

18In everything give praise: for this is the purpose of God in Christ Jesus for you.

18in everything give thanks, for this is [the] will ofGod in Christ Jesus towards you;

19Quench not the Spirit;

19Quench not the Spirit.

19Do not put out the light of the Spirit;

19quench not the Spirit;

20despise not prophesyings;

20Despise not prophesyings.

20Do not make little of the words of the prophets;

20do not lightly esteem prophecies;

21prove all things; hold fast that which is good;

21Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

21Let all things be tested; keep to what is good;

21but prove all things, hold fast the right;

22abstain from every form of evil.

22Abstain from all appearance of evil.

22Keep from every form of evil.

22hold aloof from every form of wickedness.

23And the God of peace himself sanctify you wholly; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved entire, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

23And may the God of peace himself make you holy in every way; and may your spirit and soul and body be free from all sin at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

23Now theGod of peace himself sanctify you wholly: and your whole spirit, and soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24Faithful is he that calleth you, who will also do it.

24Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

24God, by whom you have been marked out in his purpose, is unchanging and will make it complete.

24He [is] faithful who calls you, who will also perform [it].
