1Christ, then, having suffered for us in [the] flesh, do ye also arm yourselves with the same mind; for he that has suffered in [the] flesh has done with sin,
1Christ therefore having suffered in the flesh, be you also armed with the same thought: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sins:
1Forasmuch then as Christ suffered in the flesh, arm ye yourselves also with the same mind; for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;
2no longer to live the rest of [his] time in [the] flesh to men's lusts, but toGod's will.
2That now he may live the rest of his time in the flesh, not after the desires of men but according to the will of God.
2that ye no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
3For the time past [is] sufficient [for us] to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, walking in lasciviousness, lusts, wine-drinking, revels, drinkings, and unhallowed idolatries.
3For the time past is sufficient to have fulfilled the will of the Gentiles, for them who have walked in riotousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings and unlawful worshipping of idols.
3For the time past may suffice to have wrought the desire of the Gentiles, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, winebibbings, revellings, carousings, and abominable idolatries:
4Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with [them] to the same sink of corruption, speaking injuriously [of you];
4Wherein they think it strange that you run not with them into the same confusion of riotousness: speaking evil of you.
4wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them into the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
5who shall render account to him who is ready to judge [the] living and [the] dead.
5Who shall render account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
5who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6For to this [end] were the glad tidings preached to [the] dead also, that they might be judged, as regards men, after [the] flesh, but live, as regardsGod, after [the] Spirit.
6For, for this cause was the gospel preached also to the dead: That they might be judged indeed according to men, in the flesh: but may live according to God, in the Spirit.
6For unto this end was the gospel preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
7But the end of all things is drawn nigh: be sober therefore, and be watchful unto prayers;
7But the end of all is at hand. Be prudent therefore and watch in prayers.
7But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore of sound mind, and be sober unto prayer:
8but before all things having fervent love among yourselves, because love covers a multitude of sins;
8But before all things have a constant mutual charity among yourselves: for charity covereth a multitude of sins.
8above all things being fervent in your love among yourselves; for love covereth a multitude of sins:
9hospitable one to another, without murmuring;
9Using hospitality one towards another, without murmuring,
9using hospitality one to another without murmuring:
10each according as he has received a gift, ministering it to one another, as good stewards of [the] various grace ofGod.
10As every man hath received grace, ministering the same one to another: as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
10according as each hath received a gift, ministering it among yourselves, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God;
11If any one speak — as oracles ofGod; if any one minister — as of strength whichGod supplies; thatGod in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom is the glory and the might for the ages of ages. Amen.
11If any man speak, let him speak, as the words of God. If any minister, let him do it, as of the power which God administereth: that in all things God may be honoured through Jesus Christ: to whom is glory and empire for ever and ever. Amen.
11if any man speaketh, speaking as it were oracles of God; if any man ministereth, ministering as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
12Beloved, take not [as] strange the fire [of persecution] which has taken place amongst you for [your] trial, as if a strange thing was happening to you;
12Dearly beloved, think not strange the burning heat which is to try you: as if some new thing happened to you.
12Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial among you, which cometh upon you to prove you, as though a strange thing happened unto you:
13but as ye have share in the sufferings of Christ, rejoice, that in the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exultation.
13But if you partake of the sufferings of Christ, rejoice that, when his glory shall be revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.
13but insomuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory also ye may rejoice with exceeding joy.
14If ye are reproached in [the] name of Christ, blessed [are ye]; for the [Spirit] of glory and the Spirit ofGod rests upon you: [on their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.]
14If you be reproached for the name of Christ, you shall be blessed: for that which is of the honour, glory and power of God, and that which is his Spirit resteth upon you.
14If ye are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are ye; because the Spirit of glory and the Spirit of God resteth upon you.
15Let none of you suffer indeed as murderer, or thief, or evildoer, or as overseer of other people's matters;
15But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or a railer or coveter of other men's things.
15For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil-doer, or as a meddler in other men’s matters:
16but if as a christian, let him not be ashamed, but glorifyGod in this name.
16But, if as a Christian, let him not be ashamed: but let him glorify God in that name.
16but if a man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this name.
17For the time of having the judgment begin from the house ofGod [is come]; but if first from us, what [shall be] the end of those who obey not the glad tidings ofGod?
17For the time is, that judgment should begin at the house of God. And if at first at us, what shall be the end of them that believe not the gospel of God?
17For the time is come for judgment to begin at the house of God: and if it begin first at us, what shall be the end of them that obey not the gospel of God?
18And if the righteous is difficultly saved, where shall the impious and [the] sinner appear?
18And if the just man shall scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
18And if the righteous is scarcely saved, where shall the ungodly and sinner appear?
19Wherefore also let them who suffer according to the will ofGod commit their souls in well-doing to a faithful Creator.
19Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God commend their souls in good deeds to the faithful Creator.
19Wherefore let them also that suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing unto a faithful Creator.
